Even if you couldn’t care less about football, chances are that you will be asked to a Super Bowl party or you husband will talk you into hosting one at your house. Either way, you will have to step up to the plate or oven as it may be and most likely prepare a delicious dish or two. We women know that it really is just all about the food and always seem to deliver when it comes to that department.
We opened up our recipe box here at Imperfect Women and looked through it a bit to see if there was a few things we made in the past that might help you out and we think we might have found a few.
Football isn’t football without chicken wings and Patty found an excellent recipe last year – Orange and Ginger Caramelized Chicken Wings. This recipe is from the kitchen of Chef Gordon Ramsay and Patty felt it was “simple, interesting and delicious”. She gave it a “five pie” rating!
Do you actually enjoy watching the game and are looking for ideas for something you can put together in the slow cooker in the morning and not worry about missing a play or a hilarious commercial? Try Patty’s Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sandwiches. There is also an Easy Coleslaw recipe that compliments this perfectly. Here are just a few comments left under this post and you can see people were not disappointed.
- tried it all for dinner tonight. IT WAS A HUGE HIT! looooveeeed it! i was even asked to make it again! and i did it all on my own!!! first awesome made meal ever! thank you!
- Oh. YUM! If you haven’t tried this recipe, TRY IT. Definitely make the coleslaw. Two of us tried it on top- DELICIOUS! Two of us tried it on the side- DELICIOUS! WOW, I love the ginger and soy flavors.
- I made this yesterday and it was SOOOO good! It made the house smell delicious, too! Thanks so much for the recipe.
What about dessert? Are you open to something just a little bit different that involves chocolate, peanut butter and bacon? Yes! Then check out Betty Crocker’s Chocolate-Topped Peanut Butter-Bacon Bars. This post caused quite a stir back in June of 2011 when it was first posted for two reasons. One was that there was bacon added to the top of the brownie (who would have thought?) and the other was the way that Patty cooked the bacon. Parchment paper in the oven! Quite a few of us regulars here at Imperfect Women did not even know what parchment paper was, let alone that you could save yourself a lot of clean up time and have flavorful crispy bacon as an end result. Patty’s review of these brownies – The bars were surprisingly good given the odd combination. Salty, smokey, peanuty, chocolate goodness!
Above are just a few ideas to help you on your way to feeding your football loving friends and family this coming Sunday. Please feel free to add menu ideas and or recipes or links to things you will be making on the big day in the comments below!
Pam are you going to share your famous dip recipe? 😉
Menu sounds great. What time should we be there?
I don’t know, we need to ask Patty. She is the one that is cooking. 😉
Spinach Dip
1 16 ounce container of sour cream
1 8 oz jar of Kraft Mayo (not Miracle Whip)
1 package of Knorr Leek Soup (this is what really gives it the flavor)
1 bunch of green onion finely chopped
1 Package of frozen chopped spinach (thawed and all the juices squeezed out)
About a 1/2 cup of finely chopped parsley ( give or take on the amount)
A couple of good shakes of Dill Weed ( I can’t remember the exact amount anymore)
Mix and refrigerate for an hour or so. Delicious with chips, crackers or veggies.
Normally we host a big Superbowl party. But my sister decided to move Superbowl weekend. What a jerk. lol We’ll be spending the weekend in Austin though, so I can’t complain.
I usually make my tamale dip for the occasion. It’s not really a recipe though, just something someone told me about and I started making it.
1 large can of tamales
1 velveta cheese
1-2 cans of rotal
drain the tamales and smoosh them up. i usually leave about 1/2 of it pretty chunky.
melt cheese and mix together.
I usually melt and mix it up before putting it into the crock pot.
Wow! I’ve really got to try that parchment paper idea!
We are going to have chili and probably Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip!
This looks good.
Yum!! These are some great options.
LOL Roozerdo. Come early! Stay late! And make sure your pants are clean before you sit on my white sofa…LOL
Yes bacon in the oven! You need a cookie sheet with sides…parchment paper the over laps and cook at 350! Perfect bacon every time
I won’t be watching the Superbowl. I’ll be catching the commercials the next day online.
I wouldn’t mind a sampler plate.
This looks yummy. I have no clue what we are doing yet..
Is there a menu just for commercials??????? Just asking. 🙂
Snickers,
I am sure there are many people at these parties that are only there for the commercials and the food!
Pam,
I’m not a huge football fan, but I love the E-trade babies. LOL.
Oh, I’m so excited to talk about the bacon in the oven again!! LOL LOL It’s the only way I cook bacon now!
It will probably just be my daughter and I, which means by half-time it will just be me. making all the snacky things takes a lot of time and so I found a cool recipe on Pinterest I’m going to try….total comfort food for dinner…..no football food for us this year!
you are a brave women PattyPie, A white sofa just in time for a party? I will be there just to see you walk around all day with a spray bottle and sponge cleaning up after every bite….should be funnier than any half time commercial.
Normally, I’m mostly in it for the Puppy Bowl, but since I’m a 49ers fan, I guess I’ll have to watch some of the game. I’ll be making Mexican: pork tacos, Spanish rice, chips and guacamole, and lemon bars (not Mexican but my aunt always requests them) for dessert. Go Niners!
Jennie,
Congrats to the 49ers for making the big game. I have not decided yet on who I will cheer for. I love that Harbaugh brothers are coaching these two teams. How exciting for this family!
Congrats to the Bengals. The last time Cincinnati played for a title was in 1989. It was the second trip to the big game the team had made in its franchise history, and the second time it had faced the 49ers.
I host a ladies-only Superbowl party. Each brings their favorite libation. My menu is:
Baked Hot Wings With Celery of Course
Bacon-Wrapped Little Smokies or Sweet and Sour Meatballs
Spinach Artichoke Dip
Homemade Chips
Roasted Cauliflower
Chilli
Vegetable Tray
Fruit Tray
