The dream is over – 85-year-old Hugh Hefner and 25-year-old Crystal Harris called off their wedding this past week, only days before the planned June 18 nuptials. Hugh is currently consoling himself with a number of young skanks ladies at his mansion, while Harris seems to have decided to up her obnoxious quotient by appearing in Las Vegas with Spencer and Heidi Pratt. We hope y’all held onto your wedding gift receipts, since you may not have another use for matching “He’s Not My Grandfather, He’s My Husband” and “She’s Not My Granddaughter, She’s My Wife” t-shirts.
Meanwhile, all is not lost in the world of love – notorious tattooed and allegedly anti-Semitic couple Jesse James and Kat Von D denied reports that they’ve broken their engagement. Thank goodness! Those wedding gifts would’ve been hard to return – I had ordered them a case of antibiotics and some “genuine” Nazi memorabilia being offered by some dude named Wolfgang I found on Craigslist. These items weren’t on their registry so I hope I’m not duplicating anyone else’s gifts!
Bristol Palin’s memoir comes out Tuesday. I will not be reading it, as I have a policy of not reading books by authors whom I suspect have never actually read a book in their entire lives. The juicy details are available online, however – mostly having to do with the not-exactly-unexpected news that Levi Johnston is a big jerk.
Michael Lohan, who shouldn’t hold his breath waiting for Father’s Day calls from his kids today, was hit by a bus while driving his Jaguar (Michael Lohan has a Jaguar? Doesn’t he owe like a zillion dollars in child support?) in Los Angeles on Friday. Because there is apparently no thing as a just God, Lohan was not injured and even the Jag only suffered minor damage.
The Green Lantern movie came out this past Friday. Those of you that like films adapted from comic books (cough…geeks…cough) and/or worship Ryan Reynolds (whose features are weirdly small on his face IMO) are welcome to react with appropriate excitement, but you’ve probably already seen the movie three times and in fact have been camped out at the theater since Thursday.
Last, but definitely not least – Clarence Clemons, legendary saxophonist with the E Street Band, died yesterday in Florida at the age of 69, a week after suffering a stroke. Clemons had known and played with Bruce Springsteen for 40 years, after meeting him in a bar in New Jersey in 1971. His talent and joie de vivre will be missed – the world will not be the same without The Big Man in it. May he rest in peace.
Yes, Rest in Peace, Big Man.
.
Michael Lohan. What is he famous for?
I’m so sorry to hear about Clarence Clemons. May God bless him and his family.
I heard about Clarence Clemmons last night. I took my hubs to see Bruce and the E-Street Band Oct 09 when they were one of the last groups to play the Spectrum in Phila. He didn’t want to spend the money but we are both glad we did. If Bruce tours again, it won’t be the same. I felt a kinship with him at the concert as he was recovering from knee replacements and I had gone thru the same thing. Very sad that we won’t hear his saxaphone again. As for Michael Lohan, I wish he would just go away and the whole Hugh Hefner thing is just gross.
RIP Big Man. The E Street Nation will never be the same.
Great recap! 🙂
I want to know if anyone watched The Killing this season and what did you think about the season finale tonight?
.
Pam, I’m a week behind. Last week’s episode definitely ended in such a way that I think I know at least part of the story, but I’m looking forward to watching the finale. Was it satisfying to you?
Sigh, will Heff never find that ONE special lady. 😉

I was never a big fan of Bruce. Please don’t hit me w/sticks. I like him as a person, but most of his music didn’t do it for me. However, I loved Clarence Clemons’ playing the sax. He was so talented. I was really sorry to hear that he passed.

Uhm, isn’t Bristol a little young to be writing a memoir? Is it called Part I?
I agree, Lily. How can anyone that age write a memoir?

I really enjoyed watching The Killing. I didn’t miss an episode- unusual for me and a 10PM show (I don’t TIVO.)
.
I was hoping of having the satisfaction of seeing justice for a teeangaed girl in 13 weeks, unlike the way it works in real life. However, I was SORELY disappointed that they will stretch this into another season. They should have concluded the Rosie Laarsen case and started afresh with another case next season.
.
All along the series seemed like a combination of The X Files (smart red-head lead, gloomy surroundings,) and 24 (1 day vs. 1 hr. “real time” per episode.) But neither The X files nor 24 ended with cliffhangers. BOOOO!
Ann,
At first I kind of felt like you but after I thought about it for a few minutes….I really liked the ending. I was reading around the internet and most felt like you but I am looking forward to next year. What a twist at the end.

There are seemingly rational people in this world who are not Bruce fans? ::shudders in horror:: Can I at least hit you with twigs? 😉 (I’m just teasing. With 125+ shows under my belt, I might be a bit of a hardcore member of the Church of Bruce but I am respectful of the non-believers!)
Unbelievable, you have 125+ shows, that is just…Unbelievable (and wonderful too). My count in the low double digits seems paltry.
.
Rhonda, so glad you got the opportunity to go. It makes me feel sad that I passed up opportunities to go in recent years. There are always good excuses not to go – $$$, crowds, etc. Obviously, if I had known this would be the last time to see Clarence, I would have been there. You are right – I can’t imagine what the shows will be like going forward. A crucial element will be missing for sure (as much as I love Bruce).
.
Honestly, when I heard the news, I felt like I had been punched in the gut. I had thought (mistakenly) he was going to pull through. 69 seems too young to go, especially someone so full of life. Life is so not fair…
I didn’t know who Ryan Dunn was, although I have heard of the Jackass movies. Apparently, there is some controversy brewing because it is looking very likely this crash was alcohol related and commentators have been quick to condemn Dunn. Roger Ebert tweeted this:
.
“Friends Don’t let jackasses drink and drive”
.
Some are saying Ebert was wrong. That is was too soon and all the facts are not in. I don’t know. From where I sit, I am not sure there is a wrong time to call out someone for the incredible stupidity and selfishness of drunk driving.
This morning when I saw the news there was a link to Dunn’s twitter account and he had tweeted a picture of himself and two other men at a bar? drinking. I can’t remember what the tweet said. That tweet is no longer there.
Interesting, Pam.
.
I forgot to say, great recap Jennie. I know you are a pitch hitter for our regular writer! 🙂
.
I find myself saying “ugh” to most of these people, Crystal, Kat, Jesse (extra ugh), Michael Lohan (not enough ugh’s in the world)….The exception is Bristol. I’m not going to buy her book and I agree it’s a bit silly to write a memoir at her age, but on the other hand, she has lived a pretty full life for someone so young. Also, she is working single mom and I have a feeling Levi isn’t bringing in any serious cash. I wonder how candid she will be about her mom? Mmmm. I will flip through her book at the bookstore if nothing else!
I saw that tweet earlier, too Pam. Did you see the car? Wow that thing burnt to a crisp.
@Anya #14, I agree. He was drinking and driving. What was he, or his passenger, thinking? How selfish and stupid to be drinking and driving, speeding at that.
Unbelievable, you truly rock! I love Bruce & the E-Street Band, but I have nowhere near double digits with them at concerts. I will miss Clarence. I thought he’d pull through, too. RIP Big Man!

Yeah, I thought he was going to pull through too and was totally shocked by the news. He had a lot of living left to do.
I went to the final show of the last tour, braving Buffalo in November, (I’m a weather wuss from LA) precisely because I knew I’d regret it if it turned out to be the last E Street show. Obviously I had no clue that it would be Clarence’s last show, but I’m so, so glad that I was there. If you haven’t seen it, you might want to check out this video from that show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtF4ATNH1Qw. It’s Growin’ Up, old-style Bruce with a story in the middle…and he chose the story of meeting Clarence.
(NSFW warning: There is an f-bomb thrown in there.)
I saw the kerfuffle about the Roger Ebert tweet and have mixed feelings. I love Ebert so I hate to criticize him, but I guess I think it’s slightly disrespectful of those that are mourning Dunn. It’s one thing for you or I to say it to each other in person, but for someone with as many followers to be snarky so soon after the death in such a public way seems like it might be hurtful to the grieving.
*
OTOH, I do understand people having a zero-tolerance attitude towards drunk driving. Particularly those who have lost a loved one to a drunk driver. I always try to err on the side of compassion, but there’s no denying that Dunn’s actions were incredibly irresponsible and have caused a lot of pain and devastation.
Jennie, thanks for the laughs great recap~
I’ve never been to a Springsteen concert it’s still on my list, but Clarence will be missed.
I see where Hugh has already moved on and has a new best girl. What a guy!
Great recap……yes. Just in case you were wondering what Kmom2 is doing this weekend…….cooking bacon in the oven! So excited! LOL LOL
