Pumpkin Background with Leaves

Thanksgiving is soon upon us. Across America, families and friends will be gathering in gratitude to feast upon a sumptuous meal. Some come together at mom’s table for homemade fixins, others will dine out or have their meal catered in. No matter who is doing the cooking or where you may be eating, there’s always one particular part of dinner that gets your mouth watering. For me, it is my sister’s cornbread dressing. Pour some of my mom’s gravy on it and who needs turkey? But, then the turkey makes it even more incredible!

Many years ago, after transplanting herself to the South, my sister brought this addition to our holiday table. It tasted so wonderful and we marveled at how we had done without it for years before. Now, we always have my mother’s traditional and my sister’s cornbread dressing and both get gobbled up.

Share with us your favorite part of the meal and answer our Thanksgiving questions. Feel free to post a recipe of any special family dish.

What is your favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner?
Is there a difference between stuffing and dressing?
Do you prefer white meat or dark?
Will you be in the kitchen cleaning or on the couch watching sports?
Are you a pumpkin pie eater?
What are you thankful for this year?

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving dinner is the stuffing. Ever since I was a little kid, I couldn’t get enough of the stuff! And I definitely prefer white meat over dark!!

Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving!

I like the white meat the best, my Hubs likes the dark meat as does most of his family so I pretty much get my pickings of the best part.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

I will be in the kitchen for days before but very little the day of. Stuffing is used to stuff different foods, dressing is not made to stuff anything. White meat unless it is a smoked turkey leg – those things are just too good to resist. I will be in the kitchen cleaning and then going out for a run, I think watching sports are a big waste of time though my boys all watch the (husband included).Pumpkin pie, I make one just for myself (this is why I run!). I am thankful for my boys (husband included), without them, I am nothing.

I only like the white meat of the turkey (that goes for chicken as well) and PUMPKIN PIE is my favorite and the best part of the entire meal IMO. I am Thankful that my Mom, who just turned 91 years old yesterday is still in good mental and physical health-yeah she does have a couple of issues but nothing major-and that I will be driving us up to see my friends of over 40 years for dinner! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your entire family!

This year we are going quite simple. A little bit because of the economy and a lot bit to decrease the stress level. My favorite part is just slowing down and enjoying my family. My kids are growing so fast, just want to make memories.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! The best part of Thanksgiving is celebrating it with your family!

I prefer white meat but I will eat both. Dressing has always been my favorite and I want real dressing, LOL. I will never forget a Thanksgiving dinner we attended in California when we first moved out here. I was so looking forward to the dressing and it turned out to be a wild rice version. I was not very happy. I wanted the real deal. The midwest version. That ended our going elsewhere on Thanksgiving. 😉

I will be the cook, dishwasher and sports watcher this year and every year. I love me some pumpkin pie although I am really fond of apple too.

This year, I am thankful for the years that God has blessed my family with my wonderful parents. Happy Thanksgiving, to you all!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

We are going simple this year for Thanksgiving, since 1/2 of the family has moved away in the last few months. We are going to bake cookies and hang out with some friends later in the evening. I hope everyone has a great day!

We use the word stuffing and dressing interchangeably, but we never put it inside the bird. There are huge two pans of it, one of cornbread and one of my mom’s.

    Definitely prefer white meat.

I’ll be in the kitchen helping to clean. I never watch sports on Thanksgiving (or hardly another time).

I am already craving pumpkin pie!

I am thankful for those in my family who are still with us. I am grateful for all the past Thanksgivings we spent together when we were all alive and well. Very precious memories there.

My favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is the green bean cassorole. Every year I think, “This is so easy, why do I only make it once a year?”.
Definately dark meat. No white on my plate until all the dark is gone!
I am thankful for family and the ability to be able to celebrate Thanksgiving!

My favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is being around family and having that feeling of togetherness. Throughout the year, it is not always easy to get everyone together at the same time so I really appreciate this time of year.

Oh my, I just tried a new recipe at a little cooking group my town has. It was such a refreshing and tasty drink that I thought I’d share. Very easy to make. It goes fast, so you might want to double it.

    Apple-Ginger Fizz

    2 cups apple cider
    1 1/2 cups pineapple juice
    3 1/2 cups ginger ale
    3 cinnamon sticks
    1 apple

Mix apple cider, pineapple juice, and cinnamon sticks in large pan and simmer on medium heat for 10 minutes.
Cut apple into slices and add to pan. Simmer 5 more minutes
Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Pour juice into large pitcher and add ginger ale.

    Delicious!!

As chief cook and bottle washer here, I get excited in Oct. knowing my family comes together for Thanksgiving from miles away to our home for a couple of days, some I kicked out on the 3rd night. (just kidding). I spend many hours in the kitchen long before this holiday arrives, making favorite things and freezing. This week is a zoo for me, tables are set, dishes are placed, flowers are arranged in vases in the garage frig, tomorrow is my big day to throw it all together.

I eat what is left, no biggie! The dressing has to be homemade, onions, celery, real butter, cubed dried bread, sage, poultry season and chicken broth, and a few eggs, depending on how many you are cooking for. I need to stop, can you tell I cook. LOL. 7 kinds of pie, dark meat, and love that my family can still be together, part of us anyway! We will be greeting a new 10 week old Yorkie to the mix this year named Peyton, our little guy is in love with him. 🙂

Many blessings to all of you, we always say there’s always room at our table for more. Happy Thanksgiving!

My favorite part of Thanksgiving meal is my mother-in-law’s sweet potato casserole. I also love my husband’s turkey too. I couldn’t tell you how either of them are cooked. I get to relax and play with the kids all day on holidays because I don’t do any cooking. I have to do all the dishes though and clean up.

This year we went to my fiance’s cousins’ house for the 1st dinner, then to my son’s grandmother’s house for the 2nd dinner. We were all totally stuffed by the time we got home. On Saturday, we (mostly my fiance) made our own Thanksgiving dinner and got thoroughly stuffed again. Since we made a 23 lb turkey for the 3 of us, we had leftovers like crazy for making turkey sandwiches for a few days.
