Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) happens when you experience an involuntary urine leakage with some type of physical activity that puts pressure on the bladder. From everything I have read, it affects one in three women at some point in their lives. Guess what? I just happen to be part of the unlucky “one in three.” Most women seldom talk about their SUI because they are embarrassed, but when it impacts many of us to the point where we restrict our activities, it is time to start talking.
I love to walk. It may not be considered a flashy or cool exercise but it works for me and delivers what I need. Give me my iPod filled with a mix of anything from Tom Petty to the Counting Crows, a friendly place to walk and a good hour or more and you will see my spirits soar for the rest of the day. I love to walk in different areas of my community. The places I enjoy walking at are the local park, the local college track and a nature trail that follows the Los Angeles River Basin. None of these areas have a bathroom available to the public, which of course to someone like me, can cause a major problem on a rare occasion.
I don’t always have issues with SUI but I have had it enough that it caused me to be stressed about it enough to not go for my walk. Now that was depressing in itself. Until I found Always Discreet products.
Tips to help you manage.
One should always consult with their doctor and follow their advice first when dealing with a finicky bladder but there are things that one can do on their own to help:
- Pelvic Floor Exercises
- Limit caffeine and alcohol which can make you produce more urine.
- Do drink your 6 to 8 glasses of liquid each day but cut back before activities that you might not be able to access a bathroom.
- If overweight, weight loss will help take the pressure off the bladder itself, especially with stress incontinence.
- Use Always Discreet products to help you find the incontinence solution that is right for you.
