Hollywood has always had a certain love affair with wine and it isn’t altogether surprising that there are so many great films revolving around the world of wine and wine-tasting. Let’s take a look at the top 5 wine themed movies below:
Sideways:
Perhaps, the seminal wine film experience. The much loved and praised movie, Sideways, won plaudits for directors and stars alike with the affable character played by Thomas Haden Church being particularly entertaining.
Sideways is a great wine film and one that follows two forty-somethings as they make their way around California wine country (learning more than a couple of life-lessons along the way)!
Corked:
A hilarious documentary about the wine industry which was put together by film-makers from a number of different wineries and their attempts to impress a visiting wine critic.
The film was very well received upon release but won’t be a movie that many will have seen or, perhaps, even heard of but it is definitely a worthy addition to our list of top 5 wine movies.
If you’re after an insightful, humorous and immensely enjoyable glimpse at the wacky world of wine production, Corked will tick all of the right boxes!
This incredibly entertaining true story revolves around one of the most controversial events to have transpired within the wine industry in modern times.
The film tells the tale of a “blind” wine-tasting event in Paris in 1976 when the world’s best wine critics had to overcome their snobbery when many French wines failed to come out on top in the taste tests. A hugely enjoyable film, starring the always brilliant, Alan Rickman.
A Good Year:
This Ridley Scott directed movie stars Russell Crowe and is based upon the Peter Mayles novel of the same name.
The story follows Crowe’s over-worked and stressed investment banker character who is bestowed a French chateau and vineyard in a will and begins to fall in love with the much more laid back way of life that he discovers through making wine.
Whilst not ostensibly about wine, The Kids Are All Right certainly has plenty of scenes where wine plays a role – as you can see from the film’s poster!
The wine seems to serve as a backdrop to the film’s overall message about identity and the story revolves about a lesbian couple’s two adopted children and their search to find their birth father.
The Kids Are All Right is a funny and touching film and one that certainly warrants a place on our list of top wine themed films.
So, there you have it – that concludes our list of top 5 films for wine fans! All of the movies above have qualities that make them a must see for any fan of wine but they are also highly entertaining films in their own right! Wine is such an interesting industry and it really isn’t difficult to see why it has become an inspiration for Hollywood filmmakers because the subject matter can be so enthralling. Are the any films that you would have added to the list? Which of the movies above is your

Not much of a wine drinker here, but I enjoyed Sideways and The Kids Are All Right. Haven’t seen these other films but I will probably check them out.
A good year is a nice movie, I have seen it many times, I recommend it.
