TLC is premiering an all-new series PAWN QUEENS, tonight, May 5 at 10/9c. The original premiere special episode achieved an average number of 1.2 million P2+ viewers.
Located right outside Chicago, businesswomen Minda and Nikki run the only pawn shop that caters to women. This family-friendly boutique specializes in merchandise that caters to real women, including must-haves like jewelry, vintage Barbie dolls, and one-of-a-kind antiques. Each episode reveals what’s involved in the pawning business and features Minda and Nikki struggling to debunk the stereotype that the pawn business is just a man’s world. With their two business partners, Greg and Tom, they pawn, purchase and sell anything in order to help their fledgling company stay afloat. Each item that comes through their doors is an opportunity to win big or lose big.
Here is a sneak peek clip from tonight’s show.
“Pawn Shop for Women”
Minda and Nikki are proud of their female-friendly pawn shop. When one customer brings an “I Love Lucy” doll to the shop, the ladies know it’s special.
My husband and I actually watched the original premiere special episodes (I believe there were two) that aired a short time back and enjoyed them. We seem to be drawn to these type of shows and also include Hard Core Pawn on truTV and Pawn Stars on the History channel for our viewing pleasure. We will be watching tonight. Will you?
As I said above, I love these Pawn shows and I will be watching. They actually can be pretty educational because they do discuss the history of the items that are being pawned. It is also fun to see what people have hiding in their basements and attics.
I like these shows too Pam. They are like a livelier version of Antique’s Roadshow. Love that they’re highlighting a business run by women.
Not necessarily something I think would interest me, but I trust your judgment! Plus, TLC has a good track record of making interesting shows. I will add it to my DVR.
Anya – did you start a Housewives thread yet? Are you watching NY – during the show they have been showing previews of NJ and the new Housewife is shown giving a bath to her kids (they look to be about 5). OK why would they show this on TV??? To be honest, I have a bigger problem with this than J&K. I know this will probably go over as an overreaction, but I just think 4 0r 5 is too old to be shown giving a bath in public. And since this is the big topic of convo, can you tell how interested I am in NY so far lol.
Just read the info on this show – does it say where outside of Chicago? If I show up there would I be perceived as a stalker? lol.
Sue if you showed up there you would only be considered a stalker if
A) You are some kind of Pawn Advocate who thinks pawned items should not be on TV because they have no say on if they should be on TV or not.
B) As a Pawn Advocate if you didn’t mind the pawned items on your on your own revenue generating blog even though you didn’t want them on TV.
C) You were writing a book to make money of the exploited pawn items.
or
D) You have Duggar like hair and a creepy look about you.
just sayin’
Pattypie – thanks for explaining that – I know I am now where near the level of the Kate stalkers. (In the past year, I’ve found out that I have ADD, so in general I have problems staying on track. My mind can not even related to their focus and the time they spends on this.)
Having said that, I do think it would be slightly stalkerish (but in a good way) to check them out.
LOL at PattyPie & Sue

Sorry Sue, unless you already have a dedicated hate-blog blog and have been driving by to take and post pics of their shop, you won’t qualify as a stalker.
Lily, stop giving me ideas lol.
Hi Sue! I need to create an exclusive Housewives thread. We haven’t had one for a while. I promise to do this weekend.
.
I missed that particular commercial! I do agree 4 or 5 is a bit old to be showing bath time with the kiddos. And I’m pretty liberal on that subject (I know some of our mods are more conservative on this subject), but at 4-ish children are really starting to become aware of their bodies and I don’t think the cameras need to be there.
.
The NJ commercial I did see was Teresa being a ‘B’ to Jacqueline. Kind of hinting that Jacqueline isn’t hot anymore. I love Jacqueline. I think she is one of the few generally kind and sweet housewives. I’m always worried they are going to can her for that! Plus, I feel for her putting up with her daughter Ashley. I think many mothers of teenage girls relate or are grateful we aren’t Ashley’s mother!
.
NY has just been weird. I used to like Sonja, but she has been awful this season. “Pecking order?” I saw Kelly Ripa say on Andy Cohen’s show that Sonja is just doing it for more camera time. Could be. Also, on and on and on about Ramona’s Pinot Grigio! For the love of gawd! Not sure what to make of Cindy, but I feel for her being stuck with some of these, um, ladies!
Every time I see Cindy I think, when did the lumber jack look come back in style? And that her brother’s GF could be the twin of his sister (down to the lumber jack look!) I think Sonja is just trying too hard, I like her so much more last year (especially when she had opened up about being divorced.) I’m hoping it will get better – I do miss Bethnany on the show. I like Kelly better this season, I still think she’s cuckoo and really needs to take ownership of her breakdown on Scary Island, but it’s good to see her setting boundaries. (but the sand angels, come on!) I’m not a big Theresa fan anymore – it started last season when she was complaining that Carolyn should just deal with her kids, even though she went on the trip thinking it was a more adult trip and she was sick.
I watched Pawn Queens. Minda and Nikki are likeable and interesting. I’d like to see more of them — maybe even out of the pawn shop.
.
It’s hard to get a complete ‘feel’ from the first couple of episodes, but so far so good.
Sue, yes Cindy does not remind one of the typical stylish NYC Housewive! 🙂
I came across this today – really, as much as I like the fighting, I don’t watch it just for the sake of fighting. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/marc_malkin/b240922_new_jersey_housewives_are_back_its.html?sid=aolpop_news&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=aolpop&utm_campaign=aolpop_news
I caught Shania Twain’s Reality Show tonight, and thought it was really good. I’m surprised at how open she was, but I also like watching the things she says and doesn’t say. It’s also interesting to watch her and her sister talk about their parents because it doesn’t seem as if they are on the same page about that, but they don’t want to contradict one another. I also thought when they visited the family who lost their parents was very moving.
I think these women are hot, and have a good deal going. till they decided to advertise. for crying out load they have a tv show to put the word out. still I would ask both of them out if I was close enough.
although taking anything to a pawn shop you will never get what you want, ever.
