PG for some mild rude humor, fantasy action violence and brief language
For some reason, I’ve had a really hard time writing this review. I’m not sure why, but here goes.
This is inspired by the Disney Mickey Mouse Classic Short of the same name. In fact, there’s even a recreation of the mop scene in the movie! Sweet!
I liked it. Didn’t love it. But definitely liked it. It was better than I expected, but I didn’t expect a whole lot. It’s a FUN movie. I actually liked Nick Cage in it. I didn’t think that was possible so big Kudos to Disney!
I guess my biggest problem is I didn’t think it was a great movie. Some people do. I’m just not one of them. The acting is good, the plot is OK, the special effects are awesome. I don’t really have anything negative to say. It just wasn’t SPECTACULAR. I wanted a little something more.
I took my 14 and 17 year old sons with me. They LOVED it, which surprised me! They’re big fans of Jay Baruchel, so maybe that had something to do with it. They’re also big fans of things blowing up, so there’s that too.
NOTE: STAY ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE CREDITS! There’s a very small bonus scene at the end that is totally worth it!!
My overall review: I can’t give it a high recommendation, though others might. I think it would be great on DVD. This is one you could easily save for Netflix.

I love Nicholas Cage but I am not sure this is a movie I would go see. I will wait for it to come out on Netflix. I am glad you sons enjoyed it.
From what I see it is kind of like a “Batman” movie which I surprised even myself and absolutely loved the most recent “Batman” release. So Netflix it is.
Thanks for the review.
Then I’ll save it for Netflix. It sounds like a good one for everyone in my family: two girls (12 and 16) and a son (18.) It’s so rare to find something we all like anymore.
Your review was more positive than another I read. Thanks for doing it, Tiffany!
Thanks for the review. I guess I’m not sure I understand the point of this movie or its relationship to the Disney film. I’m not a big fan of Nicolas Cage or action films, so I’ll probably pass.
Thanks Tiffany, the previews for this looked incredible. I am late to being the scene of being a Potterhead. We’re only up to book 4 and the same with the movies. I knew I wouldn’t be seeing this one in theaters, but wanted to know how it was. I’m kind of glad I’m not missing the most amazing theater experience of all time.
I see the movie is set in NYC. I just returned. I wonder if I will spot any landmarks!?
I am sure this movie will appeal to certain fans. If I had adolescent sons, I would probably go.
Glad to see your reviews again, Tiffany!
You know, I was just thinking. This is probably one of those movies that in a year will be on the Disney Channel non-stop. So really you can save the Netflix queue!
