Thanks? 😕
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am giddy with delight at the thought of a three-day weekend. Just one more day!
Jennie,
I am giddy also. And proud of it. 🙂
I don’t get a 3-day weekend–we always have class on Labor Day. 🙁
Class on Labor Day? Now that’s a really bad idea. Nice to see you back, Jasmin.
Labor day officially ends the summer for all of in our family. We’ll enjoy yet another great picnic and get some house cleaning/fixing up done. I think I’ll be bringing that delicious sangria recipe from imperfectwomen.com’s August picnic (x3.)
Jasmin,
I have never heard of any school or University holding classes on Labor Day. Is that a Notre Dame thing?
Liz, if you’re around, I was wondering if you were settled in your new place and if it felt like home yet?
Jasmin, can’t believe you have school, never heard of that on Labor Day.
Ann, have fun at the picnic and enjoy the Sangria. What’s everyone else doing for the weekend? I think we will be home and just hang out. Take a little breather for the last weekend of Summer. My yard needs attention, I would love to get some bulbs in the ground.
Pam, thanks for the smiley codes. I keep meaning to go and check it out. 🙂
Oh, I will tell my stupid thing of today. It’s no secret that one of my imperfections is being scatter-brained. Yesterday, my key got stuck in the ignition and I ended up having to have new ignition keys. It happened near the house and it wasn’t too bad. The most aggravating thing was walking to the auto store, who didn’t have graphite, but did have WD-40. When I got back to my car, the spray button was not on the bottle, it looked like a defect and I had to walk all the way back. Ugh. So, there was a lot of extra walking w/o the car, but I got it back this morning. My mechanic is awesome. He warned me not to put the old key in the ignition, but I needed it for the doors. I totally forgot and put the old key in the ignition. I was so worried I would screw it up, I took it off and put it in the console. I forgot that I needed it for the doors and locked myself out at my daughter’s school. I felt extra stupid when the principal miraculously showed up to help me which makes me wonder if I was being watched on security camera somewhere. They were so helpful, right when I was feeling stuck all over again. They called the police for me and an officer came right away and let me in. He has a son there, so again, I felt stupid meeting another parent that way.
Lily,
You have had quite the week with your car. Hang in there, it can’t get much worse and it gave you an opportunity to know the principal a little better and another parent who just happens to be a police officer. I think that is a big bonus. 😉
I don’t know anyone else who has class tomorrow either! I guess it is just an ND thing…who knows? Last year they changed the Thanksgiving Day rules, so maybe we will get Labor Day next year (that’s my last chance anyway).
I hope everyone enjoys the holiday! 🙂
Lily, I am aroundish :). Sorry to hear about all your car issues! That is so frustrating. I keep waiting for the time when I lock myself out of my car and house but thank God it hasn’t happened yet.
My house is wonderful- I am still getting settled and used to all the regular projects, etc. I love having my own place but there is a lot of work as well. I went from living in my apartment (one bedroom one bath) to living at my parents, and now having my own 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home. There is a bit of a learning curve there I’d say with getting things accomplished :). Everything has been unpacked for a couple weeks now, though, and I am doing lots of fires in the fireplace and having company over as much as I can. Makes for a nice, comfortable atmosphere which is just what I was hoping for!
We are starting a hard core International Economics course this week and when its over I will have 3 months off until I take the Stats course I dropped last Spring (I took a sabbatical and have to make it up). I am SO excited for the break. I bought a couple new books because I have been trying to read more along with doing more exercise. My thought is that if I can keep the exercise and mental stimulation and water drinking and healthy eating up when I am in grad school full time and working 50 hours a week then it’ll be a breeze to keep it up when school is done 🙂
Jasmin, I can’t believe you had class Monday. That has to stink! I got a ton accomplished over the long weekend between getting more things hung at the house, some gardening, studying, cleaning, etc.
Liz, so glad you are getting comfy in your new home. Lots of fires sounds wonderful. I wish mine had one. Your upcoming break is well-earned.
It’s the perfect weather here for yard work, it’s also the perfect weather for Sat nap. 🙂 It was supposed to be yard work, clearing out a lot of overgrown stuff. I’m happily doing a nap, because my help can’t come til tomorrow.
Hope everyone’s enjoying the weekend.
I can’t wait for the weekend to come–this has been a frustrating week. :-S
I’ve been dealing with a lot of wishy-washy people, and I get annoyed easily with people like that. My dorm rector is relatively young, and I get the whole “7th grade, everyone-has-to-like-me vibe” from her. So when an unpopular decision has to be made (which is her job) she tries to push it off on the Hall council, which I don’t think is very fair, because it leaves our dorm president to take everyone’s moaning and groaning over a decision she didn’t even make.
I am the dorm’s multicultural and dance commissioner, and I sent her an email (politely) asking her to be clear about what is an order and what is a request, so if people don’t like it I can send them to discuss it with her. I hate authority figures (teachers, rectors, etc.) who try to say “I try not to get into this kind of thing…” and then make a bunch of “strong suggestions” that aren’t really optional. As I see it, if you are going to be a hard-ass, own it. I’ve always preferred my strict professors to the ones who are lax sometimes and then tyrants other times, because then I never know what to expect.
My old rector was a drill sargeant, but I liked her better in some aspects because at least she had a backbone and served a purpose in the dorm. Tracking down my current rector is like looking for a needle in a haystack! There’s a lot of rumbling in my dorm over her (this is only her second year) and over 200 girls live here, so this should definitely be an interesting year. 🙂
Jasmin,
What is a dorm rector? Is that what we called the RA, Resident Assistant or Adviser? Did you get a polite response back from the dorm rector to your email? LOL
I feel for you. What are your plans for next year. Dorm or apartment?
Sorry it took so long to respond–I’ve been super busy and reading some here but not really posting! Yes, a rector is like the Resident Adviser except s/he has the power to discipline you for drinking or having sex (the latter can get you expelled). Yes, I got a super-polite response lol.
Next year I will live in the dorm because I am only going to be here a semester, but I am thinking of moving to a different one. It’s hard to move around here (most people have to live in the same dorm all 4 years) but I’m ready to try something new.
