I’ve always been fascinated with ancient cultures and the wonder if we are alone in the universe. How did people build the pyramids with no modern technology? What the heck is Stonehenge for other than a hot topic for scientists? Why did the Mayan culture really pull a Houdini and disappear? And how can the universe be so ginormous, yet we’re the only life in it? No way. There had to be more than just us. Right?
Being the dreamer I am, my imagination went to work, spinning possible answers to the roughly one gazillion questions in my mind. For years I tried to accept that there may never be any answers, or at least not in my lifetime. And didn’t that just suck for someone like me who just needs to know how everything works and why.
It wasn’t until last year that I thought about the nights I crawled out the bathroom window onto the roof at the farm where I grew up to stare at the stars, and sometimes the northern lights, and dream about what was out there. With my laptop open, I stared at a blank document and wondered…why couldn’t I make my own world to explore the possibilities like my favorite childhood books by Enid Blyton? My other worlds wouldn’t be at the top of a tree, but through reality’s veil. All I needed was a sassy, quirky heroine and her gorgeous, reluctant hero to discover what was out there. And what might come through that veil in search of us.
And so, Darkside Sun was born.
The idea that Earth is some grand ant farm created as a science project grew and bloomed into a complicated world that encompassed all of my fascinations in one blow. Ancient archaeology and anthropology, hard-won romance, the purpose of life, and our place amongst the stars. Cool.
It’s been a blast playing out those childhood speculations on paper and watching my characters evolve and grow closer as they learn about our origins. For months, I lived in that world with them, so engrossed I almost believed it was real. Almost. I still wonder what truths are waiting out there for some awesome scientist to discover, but writing my own version has satisfied my lust for answers.

About Darkside Sun:
The dead have been waiting for her…
Addison Beckett tries hard to pretend she’s normal, but she’s far from it. Since she was six years old, she’s seen the world around her unraveling, as if someone is pulling a thread from a sweater and it’s all slowly coming undone. When she ignores it, it goes away, so that’s what she does.
Enter her arrogant-but-hot professor Asher Green. He knows all about her special brand of crazy. In fact, he might be just as nuts as she is. Asher insists that the dead from a parallel dimension are trying to possess the living in this one. And since Addison seems to be the only one who can see these “wraiths,” she just might be the key to saving the world.
Addison wants nothing to do with Asher or his secret society, The Mortal Machine. But as their animosity grows, she finds it harder and harder to ignore the chemistry between them. And when she discovers that Machine laws forbid her from touching him, she realizes that’s all she wants to do.
Stop the wraiths. Break the rules. Save the world. All in a day’s work.
Normal was overrated, anyway.
