Summer’s Sizzling Reality TV

Summer is upon us, and that means one thing to a few of us obsessed fans: Big Brother is back! The CBS perennial premiered its 13th season this past Thursday. Who’s watching? Any favorites yet? Are you rooting for the veterans or the newbies?

Also recently premiering was the third season of Teen Mom 1 (not to be confused with Teen Mom 2, which followed a different set of alumni from 16 and Pregnant). We’re back for another season of drama from Farrah, Maci, Amber and Catelynn. Knowing all of Amber’s troubles (those that make the media and gossip columns, anyway), I almost don’t want to watch her part. But over all I am interested in following these girls and seeing how they deal with their babies as the grow older.

What else is on, reality-TV-wise? Celebrity Rehab is back. The Real Housewives of New Jersey and The Real Housewives of New York are chugging along. The Bachelorette should be wrapping up soon, right? What about So You Think You Can Dance – I don’t watch it, but some people seem to love it.

What are you watching?

Celebrity Rehab is my guilty pleasure. I love, love, love that show. The show started out with drama right from the get go.

I love that Hoarders is back also.

    Pam,

Those jersey girls just like to cat fight. I have become very bored with them. I read somewhere that Cindy and Alex will not be returning to the NY Housewifes. Don’t know if that is tru tho–???

I’m with Pam 🙂 I love Celebrity Rehab and Hoarders. Also watching Hoarding: Buried Alive, The Next Food Network Star and Master Chef. Not sure if those two are classified as reality shows?

I am all about “Teen Mom” and “16 and Pregnant.” I am always rooting for the young mothers. Their life is so hard. I think it’s an accurate depiction of their lives and what they go through.

I just finished this week’s episode of Teen Mom. Man, Amber needs anger management and medication (both of which I think she’s had, but I think she needs more). I get that Gary is aggravating, but to constantly tell someone to “shut the f— up” and then moments later tell him that he is disrespectful shows a lack of self-awareness that is not healthy.

Paula, Make sure you check out our update with Sharone from Master Chef. He has a new BBQ sauce out. https://imperfectwomen.com/catching-up-with-master-chefs-sharone-hackman/

Also, we have something coming down the road with Whitney Miller also. 🙂

    Paula,
    .
Just watched Hoarders last night. It was the one with the man living in Northern California with all of the junk in his yard and the women that was pregnant. I felt sorry for her husband but I guess he is as guilty as she is. He puts up with the behavior.

Pam I just got back from vacation and am catching up on the DVR. I watched Celebrity rehab and you are right about the drama. I havent watched Hoarders yet. I find the show fascinating because I know a hoarder. I have helped clean up her place and she still goes back to hoarding. She will except help cleaning up and out about every 3 years but she won’t accept any professional help. It is really sad. The sad thing is that she is a lovely person and will do anything for others. I watched Master Chef and I saw the article on Sharone. The thing is I don’t care for bbq sauce or ribs. Never did! lol

I just caught up w/this week’s Teen Mom. Jennie, I agree that Amber is need of help. I do think she was sent to anger management. I have heard things are not well for her. I do hope that her and Gary can come together to co-parent, but they are horrible together. I think it’s so easy to fall into that kind of relationship. I hope she has good support and gets the help she needs. I always think Maci must be an old soul. No matter what her decision, I am always impressed w/the maturity w/which she handles it and the drive she has to accomplish it.

I’ve watched Teen Mom from the beginning, love the girls from the 1st season best. Farrah has really grown up and taken responsiblity, occassionally we get flashes of the old selfish Farrah. My heart breaks for Caitlyn, she never had a chance, giving her daughter up was a very grown up thing to do, sometimes I like Tyler and sometimes I don’t but he seems to really care about Caitlyn. I like Amber and I like Gary but I don’t like them together, I think they can be much better parents if they stay apart. Maci is my favorite of this group of girls, she is very level headed and is always thinking about the future.

I haven’t watched Big Brother in years. I watch Celeb. rehab occasionally, I watch Hoaders because it makes me feel so much better about my own house which always looks a little lived in.

Snickers, I don’t know that there has been any confirmation that Cindy and Alex won’t be back. I have heard the rumors too. We probably won’t know until they start filming and even then it’s not always clear. Do we know for sure who is going to be on RHOBH!? I am kind of bored with New Jersey and New York too, but it’s easy to blow through them on my DVR or just keep them on in the background when I’m doing other stuff.
    .
I have watched Celebrity Rehab in the past, but when I watched the first episode this season and saw Michael Lohan – ugh – I haven’t been back. I did find myself liking Sean Young. Didn’t expect that…I will probably get caught up in a marathon sometime. I do like Hoarders too. I just forget when it’s on. I did catch part of a repeat the other night with the family from HI. The mom was a nurse. They were going to call CPS on them? Honestly, she was somebody who I was sure was going to go back to her bad old ways the minute the cameras left.
    .
Love Teen Mom. Glad to see Farrah, Maci and Caitlyn making progress. Yeah, Amber still needs a lot of help…Big Brother, so glad to see Jeff & Jordan back. Also Rachel and Brendon (so-so on Brendan). Daniele has matured. She doesn’t whine nearly as much as she did in her last season. I’m glad we wont be subjected to Evel Dick. I’m not a fan.

I used to watch some of the Real Housewives shows but really find most of the women so embarassing and vapid that I usually end up yelling at the TV! I do love Andy Cohen on WWHL on Bravo and am obsessed with Jay Mohr and his RHONJ Blog. If you haven’t read them you can read them on Bravo. He is so funny that I find myself laughing out loud every time I read his blog. Alot of his references and humor are from the 70’s, 80’s and from sports but I think he is hysterical.

Paula, I knew a hoarder too, and I believe there is a hoarder living in the home next to a place I work at. The woman I knew packed a ton of junk in plastic bags to move between apartments. I was shocked she wanted to keep all the junk! I helped her move and was just. in.shock. I *thought* we were packing it into black plastic bags to throw out!
    .
I’ve seen the show a few times, but found it too depressing to continue watching. The food hoarders are just nauseating. I only saw one success. I need more positive feedback!

I am watching the RHONJ, just waiting for Andy Cohen and WWHL! I just think he is so funny. OK for anyone who watches the show, how do these people afford thse NJ msnsions? Combined Joe Guidice and Joe Gorga have an IQ of 12! There is no way that they have legitimate businesses! Classless and ignorant does not begin to describe them. I am sure they will all be in jail soon!I don’t understand why the Manzos are on this show, they seem pretty normal and hard working! OK, I’m done now!!!

This is not reality TV but I am so disappointed that TNT cancelled Men of a Certain Age. It was a great show. They never filmed enough episodes to really give it a chance. I don’t understand how some of these networks show six episodes and then take 3 or 4 months off and then show another six episodes and think they will draw and keep viewers..
    .
“TNT has been proud to be a part of Men of a Certain Age for two seasons. While the show has featured great storytelling and performances, the audience simply hasn’t built to the point where we can continue the series. This was an extremely difficult decision for us. We wish Ray Romano, Mike Royce and the terrific cast and crew the very best and look forward to exploring new programming possibilities in the future.”

Did anyone else watch this show?

    Pam,
That is one of our favorite shows! We DVR it and watch it as a family (my husband, our 25 yr old son and me). Probably one of the best written and relatable shows on TV. So disappointed, but the RHONJ with the “pathetic losers” is still getting high ratings!

Pam, I think Rachel got a raw deal on that one. I didn’t see all the Celebrity Rehab episodes she was on, but I don’t believe Tiger’s name was even mentioned? If she returned the money, I think she should write a book about him! Yeah, I know some consider her a skank, but Tiger is too! Make that money honey! 🙂 I love that she is going after Gloria too. Pass the popcorn…
    .
Holly, I agree with you about the two Joes. Dumb and dumber! I think they both are likely living beyond their means big time. It caught up with Teresa and her husband. Not sure about the Gorgas. Those Bravo paychecks really aren’t as big as some assume from everything I have heard.
    .
Pam, I heard about Taylor and Russell. Huge surprise – not. I think Bravo only kept Taylor for Season Two so they could film the final nail going into the coffin that was that marriage.

    Anya,
So glad I am not the only one who thinks the two “Joes” are “dumb and dumber”! Joe Gorga is so creepy especially when he was talking about having sex as a way to “get rid of his poison”! So disgusting! I just keep thinking about these two families showing up at their kids “Back to School Night”, so embarassing. Like I said, their children will be a “Therapist’s Dream”. Seriously very sad for the kids. I do think Kathy’s kids are great. They seem like a good family, why don’t they get off the show and “save themselves” now!

I am so behind the times! I didn’t realize Taylor filed for divorce.

Anya, Andy Cohen mentioned on WWHL that Denise Richards will be making an appearance on RHBH and he hinted that she might be a new housewife. I thought Brandi (the one who was married to the guy that Leann Rimes just married) I also heard on WWHL that Cindy makes it clear in the reunion show that she’s not coming back. Anything with Alex not coming back I immediately attribute to a story Jill planted in hopes it will come true.

I’m excited Project Runway is coming back next week! It’s been too long for my Tim Gunn fix.

Anya and Samantha – I sent you guys an email to your IW address. Sorry for the late reply!

I’ll tell you, Maci is one tough girl. She is so stoic. At that age, I would have been crying my eyes out over all she’s been through. I get the impression that with whatever wrong decisions she makes, or what life throws at her, she’ll come out alright. She is determined to be successful and happy in life.
    /
I never know what to think about Farrah and her mother. From previous the previous seasons, I just don’t get why she took a knife to answer the door when the police were there. I thought she was cruel to Farrah on Sophia’s birthday. She kept talking over Farrah and wouldn’t allow her to read her birthday card she wrote to Sophia. She was acting loony at the restaurant where they were having the birthday dinner. I do think Farrah is a strong young lady and will also land on her feet in the game of life.
    /
I am always impressed with Tyler. He seems like a fine young man who gives a lot thought to his decisions.
