The website BabyCenter has announced their annual list of the 100 most popular baby names. Here are the top ten for girls and boys:
Sophia and Aiden were number one in 2011 and 2010 as well, and in fact the top ten has not changed that much from the previous year. Mia is a new addition to the girls’ list, knocking out Abigail, which fell to 14th.
I learned long ago to avoid stating things like “I hate the name Euripides” in the company of more than two other people, and only then if I knew that those people didn’t have a father/brother/son/favorite goldfish by that name. So I’ll avoid comment here except to say that the girls list, while full of names I generally like, is starting to seem a little tired; my favorite name on that top ten is probably Ava or Lily. The boys list is a mixed bag for me (must…not…say…more…argh!), but my faves there are Lucas and Liam.
What are your favorites? Any names you hate? (Go ahead, just ‘cause I won’t do it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t!)
The entire list can be seen here.
