The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger had fathered a child with a longtime female member of their household staff more than a decade ago. Shriver moved out of their Brentwood house earlier this year after being informed of this by Schwarzenegger.
This staff member retired in January after working for the family for over 20 years. The Los Angeles Times will not be revealing the woman’s name to protect the privacy of the child. She stated that she left the position voluntarily and was given severance pay.
In a statement to the newspaper, Schwarzenegger, 63, said Monday: “After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”
He also stated, “I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time,” the statement concluded. “While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not. ”
Schwarzenegger indicated earlier last week that the couple were working on their marriage but according to the Times, other sources say that Shriver has been unhappy for some time and a reconciliation might not be possible.
Maria Shriver had no comment.
