Sandra Bullock – Rapper?

By IW Team Member

TweetPinEmailPrintYummlyLinkedInLikeShareShares21

You’ve got to watch this clip. Sandra Bullock, American’s Sweetheart and award winning actress, stole the show when she appeared on Britain’s “The Jonathon Ross Show” this past Sunday. Seems back in her high school days Sandra wanted to impress a boy, so she taught herself the words to the 1979 hip hop classic “Rapper’s Delight,” by the Sugarhill Gang. Turns out it worked, and Sandra caught the eye of her boy at the high school dance. Sandra Bullock, rapper? Who knew? The best part about it is she is pretty darn good! The 49 year old actress, looking fabulous in black shorts and high heels (that only she can pull off and make look great), broke in to the impromptu rap at the urging of the show’s host. With a “Gimme some beats, yo.” Sandra was rapping like a woman possessed by Vanilla Ice, much to the delight of the audience. Could she be any more endearing?

But all this rapping-to-impress-a-boy talk got me thinking about the things we girls (and women) do to impress boys (and men). Personally, I am pretty much a “take me as I am” girl; I really don’t remember doing much to impress a boy. I remember going to hockey games because I knew a guy I liked would be there and that sort of thing, but that’s a far cry from my high school friend Lauren who started playing hockey to impress a guy and hated every moment of it. Nowadays, I impress my husband by mowing the grass or doing something else I don’t like to do. But on second thought, I don’t know if he is impressed or just glad he doesn’t’ have to do it himself.

But now is the time to spill it ladies. What have you done to impress a guy? Don’t be shy, it’s all among friends here!

I love Sandra Bullock, she is just the cutest and so down to earth. I can’t think of anything I did to impress a boy. It has been so long ago.

I love Sandra Bullock and I like that she is always unpredictable. I believe that this has been the secret to her lasting success, the fact that she hasn’t conformed to all of the stereotypes that entertainers fit into. Good for her trying out rapping if she wanted to.

I can honestly say that I have done nothing to intentionally impress a boy or a man! If it happens or happened–well–what can I say–but it was NEVER intentional!

I have to think long and hard about this because it has been soooooooo long ago that I tried to impress a boy, or man for that matter.

I was a bit of a tomboy and I loved horses. I do remember trying to impress a boy once with my skills at riding an unbridled, unsaddled horse and getting it to do what I want and jumping a creek. He said it was no big deal and wanted to impress me back and after struggling to get up on the horse, the horse took off and he fell off right into the creek. I know I enjoyed myself laughing at him.

He never came around again and ignored me at school. I wonder why?

She’s just so darn lovable -a girl’s girl in my opinion.

Loved your story Pam. Mine is similar but involved a snowmobile instead of a horse & didn’t end as well for me. We ended up marrying and have 3 great kids so no harm no foul. 🙂

I just saw this video yesterday – she definitely was pretty good! I have to say I don’t really think I’ve done much at trying to impress any guy. I’ve always been a “Take me as I am” girl, too. 🙂 It got me a great husband, so I think it worked! 🙂

I think Sandra Bullock is absolutely incredible. She’s hilarious, gorgeous, and super talented, and the fact that she is raising her son on her own after her husband treated her so poorly is really inspiring.

On to the embarrassment… I’m married now, but I honestly haven’t ever done much to work for male attention. Sure, I’ve expressed perhaps more enthusiasm for a certain band or movie than I have really had, but being my normal geektastic self attracted my husband, which is pretty cool in my book. 😉

  36. snickers says

    October 17, 2013 at 7:44 pm

    Pattypie,

ROTF, we still laugh about it, city girl meets country boy! I will write up the scene and post it. It’s all true, swear on my children, and a load of corn!

  37. snickers says

    October 17, 2013 at 8:34 pm

    Here it is:::

Place yourself as a city girl, meets country boy, falls in love, so far so good! Trying to impress upon him the first harvest season you can do it all, cook, laundry, chores, and help bring in the harvest. All good in my eyes, that twinkle was sparking as we worked side by side for several days, stealing a kiss here and there between loads of grain going to the bins. Mind you, who would have thought you didn’t stop a combine for that silly notion, we had work to get done, he just didn’t want to hurt my little ole feelings. After a few days of running my behind off, let me tell you I was dragging, really dragging and getting a little touchy when he thought more should be getting done in a day. No more stopping the combine at the end, dump on the run girl, we have to get it done. The weather was staring to turn cold, the days were shorter, dark at six, combing with lights on, pumping that corn through that combine, bumper crop, light mist in the air that night. Suddenly bigger drops of rain, watching the rows, DH riding shot gun beside me with tractor and grain cart, trying to be calm on the radio, move it up a gear, we need to finish. Well, long story short, I moved up a gear, ran the corn all over the row and he was behind me. Ugh! Stop he yelled on the radio, it was the tone, you know when someone wants you undivided attention, ouch! I stopped, got out and he came around that tractor and said, did you hear me. Well of course I did, did you not know to move your tractor up a gear?? Smart mouth wasn’t I?? Thought pretty good for city girl to say, until he said, now we will have to scoop this all up with a grain scoop before it gets wet, really,I said. Oh well he would help, thought maybe you would just leave it on the ground, no biggie right? He got me the scoop off the back of the tractor, I always wondered why it was there, never asked. Country boy said throw it in the head of the combine, and I will get these wagons to the shed. Wait a minute I said, you have to help me, playing the city girl whine. He said, you ran it ahead of the tractor, you have to learn to operate all sides of the combine. Grain scoops are heavy, really heavy full of corn, mind you it was raining, cold, I was beat tired, but determined to show the country boy I could do it all. I finished the job, now I was mad. Headed to the home place, he was waiting by the shed for me to come in from the field. That instant city girl came out, what happened to the sweet country boy in you, you could have helped me I yelled. Those scoops are heavy, who invented those things anyway? I’m sure my face was red, he was laughing, I was stomping my boots, kicking the rocks, thinking now what. He finally came clean, no big deal he said, just teaching the city girl to be aware of all sides of machines in the field. He said in that sweet country boy voice, next time put a ice scream scoop in the combine, it will make the job easier. The moral of the story, if one scoop is too heavy, ice cream scoops are much lighter. LOL.

We still laugh about this today, many harvests have passed, much grain has been scooped from the ground, but that country boy always reminds everyone to carry a ice cream scoop with them, never know when you might need it, especially if you have a load of corn. 🙂

I want this country girl/boy story in my obit, something for future generations to read.
