By Pam@IW 26 Comments

Mady and Cara tackle the waves by taking a surf lesson, but will Kate join in on the fun? Later the Gosselin family head out to sea for some good deep sea fishing, but will the waters cause everyone to be too sick to fish?

It’s nice to see the twins prominently featured.  The surfing was cute- typical Gosselins.

Glad they had a good time.  Wish they had shown less of the vomiting.  I would have taken their word for it.  🙂

Ugh…weak stomachs beware.  Those kids (and some of the production crew) do not enjoy travel by sea.  I feel sorry for them!  My kids got queasy when they went out whale watching, but never got sick.  I hope they get to enjoy this fishing trip.

Well, they recovered, and they enjoyed the trip.    I hope the critics waited to criticize, because it turned out to be fun…I laughed at Kate’s Chilean sea bass joke.

Wendy, I would have took their word for it too.  Oh my, seasickness is so awful.   I did laugh at the crew member.

So funny when sibs are willing to sell another off.  That was cute.

Quints by Surprise is cute. I remember their first special last year. Has anyone noticed that almost every single thing they do mirrors what they showed in the Gosselin’s first two specials. Note the two diaper drives? Note the radio talk show where callers are complaining that they are getting state medical … Do these people know what they have in store?? They are definitely more likable than the Masches, but there are some things that all families of multiples have to endure and nothing that the Gosselins have done (except for getting divorced, of course) is any different than any of these other families, so where are the child advocates???? Just wondering…

Cara was amazing on the surfboard.  I liked seeing Mady and Kate give it a try!

It was adorable how the kids wouldn’t “sell” their Mom to the pirates.  That’s not a sentence that see everyday. LOL

As for fishing on the boat.  Wow.  It looked like an ordeal (the poor kids) but somehow it became comical around the time some of the CREW started vomiting.  And then they all recovered and managed to have fun fishing.  Sweet.

    Very nice episode!

Loved the show, the sea sickness was almost funny, although I’m sure when is was happening Kate was thinking Oh No!!  The kids just puked in the bucket and moved on—. Loved when Kate had to go to the market and buy fish for dinner that night.  So much for the big catch. LOL

I loved it when Mady (who apparently had decided that she had had enough of the ocean and skipped the fishing trip) learned that Joel was the only one of the kids who hadn’t gotten sick and gave a very funny cheer for him (“Joel, Joel! He’s our man! He didn’t vomit in the can!) that his brothers later repeated, much to Joel’s delight, when the three were being interviewed on the couch. It was so sweet when, after Leah cheerfully announced that she was weird, Aaden solemnly told her, “No you’re not. You’re cute!”

Small children, especially small boys, enjoy being grossed out.  This appears to be now on a competitive basis on who threw up the most. Even Steve did vomit can duty.  The kids made an amazing recovery and seemed to really enjoy fishing, even if they didn’t catch anything edible.

Cara is an amazing athlete and Mady really did make a great deal of progress for a kid who isn’t really into water sports.  I think when they get into high school, Cara is going to be in team sports and Mady will be a cheerleader (she’s very good!)

Judy, I watched parts of Quints by Surprise too. Nice family and it seems like they have been through a lot with the economic downturn and everything else. I think their older daughter is lovely. I wish them all the best. I have seen some negativity directed their way, but as of yet, no Child Advocates or Television Consumers have started petitions or Facebook pages. LOL.

Back to the episode – another fun one! Cara is just amazing. It took guts for Mady and Kate to get on the board too, however, and I give them props. I think Mady hung on for a several seconds there. Good for her.

Pirate School. Never heard of  such a thing, but I bet it was a nice break from some of the other more adventurous activities.

The boat ride. Isn’t it amazing how resillient kids are? Puking one minute, up and laughing the next.

Peggy, I loved the “I’m Weird”, “No You are Cute” comment too. I thought it was Alexis who said it? I guess I will have to rewind and watch again! 🙂

As usual, Kate was charming and funny on the interview couch and the kids were priceless.

I want to see it again.  The half hour episodes go by so fast and I missed something about Aaden(?) almost catching a big fish.

Yes, they are.  I was surprised they recovered so well.    I wish they had reeled in a catch for dinner, they would have been so excited.

I was reading around.  I’ve seen in a couple of places that they are again trying to catch TLC doing something wrong since the children weren’t wearing life vests.    While the NC law states children  under age 13 are required to wear life vests on the water, the law does not apply to commercial vessels.   If they are interested they can find it here (page 6).  I’m all for water safety, but it’s not like kids wear a life vest on a ferry or a cruise ship.

Lily@IW– I wonder if the people who are having fits over the life vests are the same ones who mocked Kate for having the kids in life vests at Discovery Cove because of the alleged shallowness of the water (if you looked at the underwater shots, it was shallow in parts but with really sudden drop offs).  I think the risks in a larger commercial vessel are not the same as in a smaller, private boat like a speed boat or a sailboat.

I missed the first couple of minutes of this, and I see people are saying that she was “exhaling smoke” in the beginning.  Anyone notice what that was about?

Kiki, I didn’t see it.   I have no idea what they’re talking about.

If Kate was a smoker, I’m sure  Jon would have said something.  She’s such a dedicated runner that I sincerely doubt anything like that.  But, you know how it goes w/the ones looking to catch Kate at something.

I didn’t see but supposedly when she is walking down the beach some smoke comes out of her mouth.  I am sure haters will have what they are referencing on You tube soon if you want to check it out.

It’s supposedly at the beginning, she is coming out of a tent or something, walking toward the twins.  I couldn’t find it on Youtube yet.  Geez, get a life Kiki, lol.

There is no tent that I could see.   I think quite possibly some people are trying to create a little drama and get everybody all upset and blogging about it.

Does anyone know anyone who runs five miles a day five to six times a week and smokes?

Whatever it is happens when the twins are getting their preliminary surfing lessons. I don’t know what it was,  but I don’t think it was cigarette smoke (BTW, I think it is scary that anyone is going through the frames in that kind of detail. I had it taped and, after this all came up, it took me about 5 tries to find it). This is what I posted on SWE about it:>>I DON’T think Kate was smoking. I’ve never smoked myself but my late mother smoked most of her life and I’ve been around my fair share of smokers. Kate didn’t have anything in her hands and she’d walked some distance away from the tent before whatever it was occurred. She’d have had to deliberately hold her breath for a while AND then expelled every bit of smoke in one short perfect burst, and I’ve never seen someone do that. <<

The best explanation I’ve seen was also posted by a poster on SWE, Maddie:>>I also just backed up my dvr and I’m completely convinced that she does not blow smoke from her mouth. There is a dark blue canopy on a stand and as it ripples in the breeze you might perceive that there is smoke blowing across it, but you can see the ripple before Kate walks by and afterwards as well and it does the same thing. Kate just happens to turn her head to the side and it looks as though one of the ripples is smoke.<<

As I said, I don’t think Kate smokes.  When you think of all the paparazzi shots that she’s been subjected to, particularly with telephoto lenses, she’s never been photographed (at least that I’ve seen or that I’ve heard about) with so much as a cigarette anywhere near her.  Furthermore, Jon was never photographed with cigarettes until after the separation when Kate had no opportunity to affect his actions.

I wonder if those who are waxing indignant about the possibility that Kate took a puff some distance away from the kids have ever criticized Jon for smoking heavily when the children are nearby.

Nobody who runs as much as Kate says she does would dump cigarettes into their lungs. Kate seems like such a health freak with the organic and natural foods, why in the world would she smoke?

True is she doesn’t. Maybe that is why she didn’t sit real close to Jon at times. My hubby used to smoke and I would not go near him till he showered.
