This one is really cute. It is now one of my favs. The kids are having such a good time.
Watched the show, Kate running with the ice cream was so funny. The kids were having fun, and I’m sure learned a lot of new things. Can’t wait for the next show!! Is Twist of Kate coming on, just asking——-???
It was cute how excited they were about seeing “The Green Lady” and the heat didn’t seem to slow them down.
The kids are all developing interesting personalities. It was a rough time to pick to go to NYC but I think they all made the best of it. I loved when Joel said that Mommy was a good driver.
The kids seemed to be able to handle the heat better than Kate.
Those kids sure are good eaters. Many six year olds would not be willing to eat all those mystery dumplings without a fuss.
Did anyone watch Kate on ET last night? She talked to some of the DWTS people at the after party, and she’s going to be on again tonight reporting on the new DWTS contestants. Maybe she’ll be doing it all season?
I liked the dimsum part. I almost wish I was there to help them order as we go to dim sum regularly. Our kids love the shrimp dumplings.
I also thought it was cool when Kate was telling the kids that Gammy used to have those Asian candies because I like those too-the ones where you can eat the rice paper wrapping.
I thought Maddy was funny. She has a great sense of humour. And, gosh, it looked HOT! But good for them for having a good time anyway.
Those kids are so smart and funny! They all have great personalites and are witty.
Love Hannah’s haircut. Even though it is still long, it’s cut in a cute long style.
All my kids were good eaters like that–guess its genetic! Its also a product of having to eat what is served–no special meals for fussy eaters–and if you don’t eat your meal, you get NO dessert and no snacks!! That’s what we did and I know Kate practices those same things!
Loved the part where Mady said (when Kate said she was driving) “Well I guess we will all die in a few minutes” or something on that order! That was SO Mady!! That was IMO, a very good show–I guess a new one will be on next Monday!!

Mom of KT to me, that is one of the reasons why Kate has succeeded. She is grounded. Not only in the simple things, such as the food practices she uses from her childhood, but I’m sure she has picked up others that have helped her in raising her eight, keeping them grounded and on the right path. She perseveres, has goals not only for herself, but the kids and I believe a great mom. She was raised right.
Man I wish my ONE kid behaved so well. My little one watches intently to these reality shows and I know she absorbs how the kids behave. I can’t watch Super Nanny with her because I don’t want her to see how bad the kids are in the beginning and get any ideas… but having good mannered, well behaved kids to watch teaches her (she is almost 6 now) that all kids are expected to behave properly. Kate has always been a great mom…. and it doesn’t matter if she gets exasperated sometimes… all moms do. She shows that motherhood isn’t easy and no one should think it is. I love learning from other mothers and getting new fresh ideas to try. We dont all have the answers of how to raise a kid and having other people to watch helps us fine tune our own mothering skills!
I loved watching this! My almost 4 year old son has a severe speech delay, so it’s always really fun for me and my husband to listen to the kids talking, and think ahead to when our son will speak like they do. We especially loved hearing Collin talk about the bacon dim sum. Hysterical!
I really felt badly for them, though, when they wanted to get souvenirs, and the little shop was overrun with looky-loos. Poor kids and Poor MAMA!

Wasn’t that fun to watch? I am sure your son will get there soon. I love the little pairings they have with the kids and how articulate they are on the interview couch. Certain ones – Leah, Collin, Mady and Alexis seem to have a lot to say! They were all adorable and articulate and contributed to my enjoyment, however.
Mom of KT, if I could give you a hug right now, I would. I loved Mady’s comment too:
“Well I guess we will all die in a few minutes”
Anyone who has ever raised a smart and opinionated young girl/lady can relate, I believe.
Mady is going places, trust me! 🙂
I really enjoyed the show Monday night. I laughed in so many places. When it was over it left me with a light hearted happy feel. That’s what I look for when I watch a show. The kids are just so self-confident without being bratty or precouious. Just kids very comfortable in their own skin. I really like the direction Kate’s taking the show in.
I did feel for them when the couldn’t shop because of the crowd watching them. I see the double edge sword here. If I ever saw them somewhere, I wouldn’t stand and watch but I must say I’d have to at least yell Kate’s name and give her a thumbs up or just yell her name and good job.
I think my favorite part, well, I change what favorite part when I view it again – was Kate going up that ladder in heels!
Picky eaters – (hanging head in shame) I fell into that mode of making two dinners, one for each child and it was a pain. If I ever am re-incarnated & a parent, three things I wil without question do and enforce: Eat what’s in front of you, chores from the time they toddle – age and ability appropriate, which isn’t mean, and strict bedtime except on very special occassions.

As a mom of a 5 (almost 6) year old I am trying to work these exact things in now…. and its hard to change even at her young age. I have seen my child become quite obnoxious at some times and long for her to be as well behaved at the G kids. Thats why I love watching this show… the kids are close in age to mine and she sees what is appropriate and takes it all in. That way when I am asking her to do things I refer back to “do you remember seeing the kids on TV listening, doing chores, being respectful…..” she actually takes pride in being more like them.
Ziggy-I was one of four children born within 7 years of each other (My parents married relatively late in life and wanted a big family) My late mother, a tough-minded Scot (she was, as she put it, the first member of her father’s family born outside the Empire, i.e. in the US) told us that she signed on to be a mother, not a short order cook. She also refused to get involved in the you have to clean your plate before you leave the table hold-out dramas. Her rules were simple: you had to finish your main course before you got desert; you had to make a good faith try in liking things; the only thing you had to finish before you left the table was to drink your milk; and she didn’t make snacks or meals after the event for any kids who had refused to eat what was served. Her theory was that no healthy child would willingly go hungry for long and that, so long as we drank our milk, we were getting some nourishment. She also relied on our sheer competitiveness. With three siblings on the prowl, the odds that a dessert would last long after dinner if not eaten at the dinner table were slim to none.
The result is that, while each have our likes and dislikes, we’ll try almost anything (one sister is a vegetarian). Even when we were little and finally visited homes where a special meal was made for a picky eater, we were totally dumbfounded.
My 4 girls and I just finished watching the episode. We have paused, rewound, played, paused and rewound and played again the one scene of Hannah smiling and showing the missing lower tooth. One of the 5-3/4 yr olds has a very loose bottom front tooth and I’m sure the other one will soon because she keeps testing hers.
The Gosselin 8 are just too, too cute and smart and so well behaved. You can tell they know exactly where their boundries are and how much they love and are loved.
The two girls on the swing ride reaching out and holding hands was adorable.
I loved this episode. You could really feel the pulse of the big city in a lot of what was shown. I hope it was a great experience for the kids. They seemed to enjoy it very much, and dealt with the heat very well.
From the train to the bus and ice cream and Chinatown and dim sum and the visit to Central Park – it all went by so quickly. One of the most beautiful, I’d say it was an “artful” moment, was when Alexis reached out to take Leah’s hand as they were riding on the swings, and they held hands as they rode. Oh, that was so lovely and sweet. I also loved that Kate gave each of the kids a quick little kiss as she made sure they were seated properly in the swings. The cute little smiles they all gave her were priceless.
I loved that they were so excited to visit the “green lady.” Cara’s explanation about why it was green was EXCELLENT. I thought Mady’s reaction to Kate “driving” was so funny, and Collin telling Kate that she’s a good driver was so sweet. I totally understood why Kate didn’t feel too comfortable in the gift shop, and needed to get out of there. It was most likely stifling to be in that confined space with so many people around.
I hope they all had a great time! It was a very good episode, and it captured NY beautifully. Hot time, summer in the city! 🙂
I loved it (what I saw, I feel asleep). Love DVR!!! I spent a lot of time in NYC as a small child with my grandmother. It brought memories.
Yeah, I’m sure you enjoyed seeing EVERYTHING! (Flying under the Radar, are you?)
Just watched this episode on my DVR. It was cute, looked like the kids had a great time. Hate that they couldn’t shop & just be a “normal” family at the Statue of Liberty shop.
Unfortunately, I am not enjoying some of Kate’s wardrobe decisions!
Poke, Kate’s outfits don’t personally bother me. I think considering the heat and the shape she is in, they are fine. Some people prefer more modesty, and I can appreciate that, but I think people should dress in what makes them feel good.
No way could I wear the heels she does for hours, but again – her choice. I am sure being in shape helps.
I missed out on a few cute scenes that you guys pointed out. I’ll have to look for those. Thanks!
Anya, I would say I do prefer more modesty. I’m in my late 20’s w/2 kids & I am having a hard time with clothes. Some things feel too “Grandma” to me, while others are too “teenager.” I don’t mind Kate’s shorts or skirts or her high heels. It’s more of the black tank she wore to the Statue of Liberty, just a little too revealing for my taste. And not saying that Kate will be like this, but I can’t stand Mom’s that wear the same clothes as their teenagers. “Juicy” should not be written on the tush of a youngster let alone a 40 year old. 🙂
LOL, Poke, ITA about that “juicy” comment. My teen is offended I write LOL and ITA, though.
The kids are unbelievably cute. They aren’t “cutesy” either. I do love that Colin, though the kids all had sweet moments.
I like a little more covering on the top, too! I probably would have thought that about most of the women there, it was so hot that week. I think it’s CRAZY to wear heels in NYC, but that city is filled with fashionably dressed women, most in heels. Kate’s comfort walking around in them just shows that she didn’t start wearing heels just to get on DWTS. She likes her heels!
Ann@IW : I was particularly impressed when she scrambled up the boat ladder in heels.
