I have just completed ten weeks on Weight Watchers, and I am now 10% lighter than when I started. I have only a few pounds more to lose, but I am happy with how far I have come. Weekly weight loss is now less than 2 pounds per week, but I am steadily losing. I have made healthier choices, cook lighter, and eat more fruits, vegetables, and fiber than before. The only area of weight loss that I wish I would do better at is exercising. I’m just not consistent. Maybe this week?
I did not know that losing 10 % was anything special, but Weight Watchers has a nice article on its website called “The Big Ten Percent,” extolling the virtues of a 10% weight-loss. According to Weight Watchers, the benefits are:
- lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels
- lower risk for Type 2 diabetes
- more energy throughout the day
- higher self esteem
- a reality check on what it will take to reach the final goal.
I did not have elevated blood pressure or cholesterol, but I do have more energy and self-confidence. I also feel committed to losing the final few pounds. I think I’ll have to increase my walking and swimming if I want to keep going.
How is everyone else doing?
Congratulations, Ann! You are an inspiration to us all. As for exercise, sometimes it just takes finding the “right” kind – something you enjoy or something that is at least easy for you to fit in. Beyond that, it really does just take making yourself do it. You’re doing great!
Great job Ann,
Wish I could say the same. I keep saying tomorrow. Well that doesn’t seem to work. Exercise was never my problem in the past. It was the one thing I enjoyed. Either taking my dogs for long walks or listening to my music while I was exercising. It was the eating part that was difficult for me. Now it is both. LOL.
Ann, my IW Weight Loss Hero! 🙂
You are a great inspiration, especially since I know you had a couple of setbacks, but kept it up.
I love the positive attitude of WW and praising a 10% loss and showing dieters that progres IS progress, even if you are not at your ultimate goal, is a wonderful strategy.
Time for me to stop talking and start doing!
Ann, Congrats. I have loved hearing your ww adventure. You are doing great. I’m finding it hard to be consistent. I love icecream and snacks in the summer, but we do eat more fruit then too. I have cut way back on the Pepsi.
Anya, I agree. I wouldn’t have thought about any this as much, if it hadn’t been for us all talking on here.
Thanks for all the inspiration!
Fantastic job! You should be proud of yourself. I know from personal experience the weight loss battle is a hard and long one. So good job and keep up the great work.
🙂

Wow Ann!
That’s great! I never had to watch my weight until I had my first child (which was also the time I turned 30 :(. ) Every year I would gain a few more pounds and think, “This is unacceptable.” Looking back, the weight I was then would be very acceptable to me now. You have given me the inspiration to try WW online again. I’m not much for meetings. I agree with Pam, tomorrow always looks good to me. But since my youngest is 11, I don’t think the baby weight excuse is going to fly for much longer.
Wow Ann this is my first trip here (on your blog) and you have inspired me! Is this the first time you have been on WW? I keep blaming my problem on a life of yo yo dieting 🙁 But I did recently join Planet Fitness which is wonderful. I used to go to Curves but am no longer “inspired” by them. I keep telling myself that when I am hungry my stomach does not care what I send down there, it is my mouth that gets me into trouble (in more ways then one, 😆 ) So I need to put low calorie healthy stuff in my mouth! What kind of snacks do you use when those cravings call? Keep it up you are an inspiration to me!
I thought of all of us today, and as of now, we are walking to the corner store instead of driving. I used to be really good about using my bike for trips like that. I just took off the big ugly milk crate that was wired to the front of my pretty bike that I used to carry stuff in.
This year my little one can’t fit on the back seat anymore. (sigh). I am missing the exercise. A lot of times I’d take her for a spin before bedtime. I have been riding around the street while she’s on her training wheels, but that’s not much of a workout.
Thanks again for the inspiration, it’s really silly to drive to that store, much healthier to take the time to walk.
Thanks for the pats on the back, everyone.
This is my first time on WW, Rosie. I eat fruit for snacks, and sometimes celery/carrots. Popcorn is not too many points. Believe it or not, though, I have been able to fit snacking in by keeping portions small for snacks and meals and using those weekly points. So I have had a cookie or two and pretzels. I just don’t eat the whole snack’s worth anymore! I also LOVE the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches.
I am still not exercising enough 🙁
Wendy, my baby is about the same age as yours. If you let me use the “baby fat” excuse, I’ll let you use it too. 🙂
Lily,
So how far away is the corner store? I need a good daily walk like that in my own life.
Ann, the store is pitifully close, 4 city blocks at the most. It’s around and a zig zag, then a somewhat busy road to cross which was my sad excuse. Like I can’t cross a busy street. 🙂
Ann –
Congrats on the big 10%. I need to get myself back into WW pronto now that summer vacation is closing. I’m looking forward to some cooler evenings so I can get back to walking which I’ve always loved to do!
You rock!
