With Memorial Day approaching, I think about last fall when I visited Wisconsin and was both impressed with and proud of the way the people from my home state were remembering and honoring their fellow Wisconsinites who served our country over the years.
My husband and I visited two of the local small communities in the area and found both communities to have beautiful memorials to the men and women that served our country. I was very pleased to see this since I have relatives that were mentioned at both memorials.
Memorial Day weekend is always a kick-off to summer and most likely filled with family fun activities. However, I do think that it is important to remember this holiday for what it was meant for – to remember and honor our fallen for whom this day is set aside.
Below are some pictures that we took of these memorials. Does you community do something special to remember and honor your veterans?
The local town does a daybreak ceremony at a memorial statue, but I have never participated. We had a family picnic yesterday and sang quite a few patriotic hymns into the karaoke machine (too bad for the neighborhood!)
Several of my family were in Colorado Springs this past week to attend the Air Force Academy graduation. One of my brothers graduated 20 years ago and he participated in the ceremony at the request of our niece who graduated this year. President Obama gave the address. The videos they shared of the graduation were fabulous…very stirring.
We will be particpating in our local ceremonies in the morning. As a military family here, it’s still puts a lump in your throat for all those that have served and died. The taps at the end are just gut wretching to me. My guys will be marching with the color guard tomorrow to honor their fallen brothers.
Ann,
Congrats to your niece.
Ann, congratulations to your niece. She must me an impressive young women, as the U.S. military academies are some of the most difficult schools to get into.

We attended our local parade and listened to the ceremonies. Not too many WWII veterans left to thank for their service and sacrifice.

How blessed we are to live in a country that affords us free speech, the right to vote for whomever we wish and the the ability to pursue our dreams.

God Bless America!
Thank you troops.
God bless America.
I posted this last night on Ziggy, but it applies here too
In memory of those that have fallen and in honor of those that serve, may God bless you and your families Anderson may God Bless America.

In memory of those that have fallen and in honor of those that serve, may God bless you and your families and may God Bless America.
