Meatless Mondays have increasingly become popular for many families. Even though most families consume a standard American diet, many are choosing to become meatless one day a week because they realize that it can have a big impact on their health.
Going meatless, even if it’s just once a week, can dramatically decrease your risk of heart disease and decrease the risk of diabetes. Other added benefits include reducing obesity and possibly decreasing the number of colon cancer incidents as well.
In addition to the health benefits you gain from going meatless once a week, there are also benefits for the earth. Reduction of fossil fuel and water that is used to raise livestock is just one of the many benefits to the earth.
With the many healthy meat replacement products you’ll find in the health food section of your local grocery store, you will be able to make healthy veggie chilis, pasta dishes and so much more!

This post was very informative! Better health is something this nation really needs to aspire for.
I might be able to give up meat once a week, but not necessarily commit to a certain day of the week lol. It would mostly be to cut calories for me, though.
I’m like Robin, I mostly cut back on everything to cut calories – but do recognize the other health benefits to going meat-free/plant-based. There seems to be issues on the plant-based diets too….like GMO soy products and soils being so overused that there are virtually no nutrients left in them. No wonder we are all so confused! 🙂
I try to go meatless whenever possible. I think I could be a vegetarian, but not my husband.
Hubby and I are definitely giving up meat once a week. Our meatless day is going to be on Fridays. Very informative post!
I think that this is a good idea to give up meat for one day and get more fruits and veggies in our bodies.
That’s food for thought, and although I do love the ideas of Meatless Mondays, my Husband and children outright refuse it. It’s hard living with picky eaters.
It’s something to think about. And great for those that can handle a meatless Monday. Not my cup of tea. If I don’t get enough protein I get a lot of migraines, and my stomach can’t digest a lot of the protein alternatives.
I would really like to do a meatless monday around my house, although my hubby would disagree. He is a steak and potatoes kind of guy.
My husband is Hindu and his entire family goes completely animal product free on Tuesdays. No eggs, no meat, no fish, no bouillon, etc. I’ve tried to get into that practice and it’s not so bad until I’m stuck out on the road and forced to eat fast food or starve. We really need more meatless fast food options along the interstate.
I would be much more about this than my husband would be for sure. We have a place here called Sweet Tomatoes that is pretty much an extensive salad bar. He hates it because there is no meat LOL
I have been eating less meat lately and I really feel better. I think it has to be because of less meat on my diet.
I have a meatless chili recipe that I make in the Crock Pot. Not only is it easy, it’s delicious! We eat more fish and beans than we used to and less red meat but don’t plan which days.
Sounds like a really good idea. I think the health benefits are so worth it.
We try and have at least one meatless meal a week.
I am meatless everyday. It’s good to see that it has become more popular
We do meatless meals a couple times a week at our house. It does not always mean you are healthier though, I have a friend that makes fried veggies one night a week and swears it is okay because fried broccoli is still better for you.
I just try to limit to red meat once a week. Mainly for health reasons.
This is a good post. I rely on spices and such for my dishes because I’m vegetarian (have been since I was very young). I would love if my husband would start to enjoy some dishes w/o meat, but I don’t forsee that any time soon, if ever. 😉
We do a lot of meatless dishes these days! I’m so proud of my husband that he isn’t requesting more meat.
I love the idea of meatless Mondays! I’ve always thought of it in terms of health, but it is very interesting, and helpful to see the information on how it impacts the environment! We’ll be trying to go meatless once a week!
I have heard of meatless Mondays but I didn’t realize it was such a movement! Very cool!
We’ve been going meatless on Mondays for a few months now. Despite some protest, everyone is usually very happy with the meals and they often last for 2 or 3 meals. It’s great!
we actually have only one or two days a week with meat in it. The rest of the week we use other sources of proteins.
Meatless monday is something i would like to try but not sure the family would like it so much.
My husband stopped eating meat recently so I think a Meatless Monday would be great for my family. It’s not as hard for him as I thought it would be.
I hadn’t heard of Meatless Mondays but that is something I could get on board with. My daughter is vegetarian {right now, she goes back and forth a lot, lol} so we could be vegetarian together one day a week.
I’d have no problem going meatless the majority of my days. I tend to pick around the meat in my food anyhow.
We try to have a couple of meatless meals each week. It’s a great way to save money on groceries and there are lots of great alternatives so you never have to miss meat.
As a recently diagnosed diabetic I have been doing a lot of research and meeting with a dietician on eating healthy. I found this article that I am linking makes a lot of sense. http://diabeteshealth.com/read/2014/03/21/8184/another-blow-to-the-saturated-fat-is-bad-school-of-thought/
I already have one day a week where I don’t consume meat or very little of it. I actually love vegetarian/vegan food 🙂
