It appears that Kate Gosselin and her eight children are vacationing and most probably filming out west this past week. We have all learned this information via reports on Twitter, Facebook and in the Rapid City Journal.
One place they were reportedly sighted was Mt. Rushmore and a Yellowstone Park Ranger also tweeted that “Heading to Old Faithful today to meet with the Kate plus 8 show!” Kate also tweeted today “yellowstone natl park..Scenery breathtaking&old faithful was amazing!Kids r loving travel,as usual.luv 2hear ‘mommy thx 4 bringing us here.” I remember back in January when the family was visiting Australia and there were quite a few non- fans upset that this family and TLC were not pouring their time and money into supporting tourism in the United States. Well they got their wish!
When I first heard about the Gosselin sighting at Mr. Rushmore all I could think was – awesome! Especially for those kids. My parents took my family on a trip through the Badlands, Blackhills and Mt. Ruhsmore when I was about the age of the twins and I have nothing but fond memories of that trip. My brothers and sister and I talk about that trip to this day. I have a brother who was younger than the Gosselin sextuplets and he has some very vivid memories of the trip also.
I enjoyed the trip so much that my husband and I took our two boys when they were 7 and 11 years old on the same trip and we included Yellowstone Park. We had a wonderful time and some great pictures and videos to go with it. Almost 20 years later, they still bring up different memories that were special to them. They enjoyed that trip more than going to Disneyland or Universal. Last summer, my brother and his wife took their 7 year old son there on vacation and when we met up with them in the fall my nephew could not stop talking about it.
I read on a “Negative Nellie” site that there really isn’t much for them to do in the Mt. Rushmore area and that when “they were there they were bored”. Also something along the lines that they would be better off at “sleepover camp”. Seriously? Are you saying that with a straight face? One only needs to google that general area and you can find a ton of things to do. Add Yellowstone to that and all the activities that go along with that and you will find 8 kids having a wonderful time.
How about you? Have you ever vacationed in the “Wild Wild West’? What family vacations have you taken as a child or with your own children that you have fond memories of and would recommend to others?
