Month of November

Here comes November and the beginning of all of the hectic but fun holiday preparations. November 1st is really when it hits you that the holidays are coming and you better put some thought into how you are going to handle all the massive amount of things that are on your “to do list” this year. Do any of you have your holiday shopping started yet?

Did you know that November is known as “full-beard” month or No Shave November. Some people also refer to it as Novembeard.  Apparently No Shave November is an annual tradition in which men don’t shave for the entire month.  It is done so in the name of raising awareness of men’s prostate health. I read where women can participate by not shaving their legs! Hmmm…I think I will pass on that and just make a monetary donation to the cause.

Don’t forget to set back your clocks the first weekend of November when Daylight Saving Time ends. The big positive is that you will gain an extra hour of sleep Sunday morning but on the downside your commute in the morning will get darker. This is also a good time to change smoke detector batteries and check to make sure your devices are in working order.

What are your plans this November? Are you traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday or staying home and just enjoying the long holiday weekend? Do you have your meal planned yet?

We would also like to give a shout out to everyone with a birthday or anniversary this month! Let us know in the comment section below so we can celebrate with you. Please use this thread for Open Discussion as always!

I love the turkey! It reminds me of something I would have seen on the farm in Saskatchewan 😉

I love fall…I love November just as long as I am on track with Christmas shopping..if I am not, November goes far too quickly!

    Does everyone have Thanksgiving plans?

Anya – I too am thankful for IW 🙂

    Happy November!!

My baby will be 7 on November 2 & my oldest daughter will be 17 on November 13. It’s a busy month for us with the end of soccer season & high school basketball season getting started.

Weather is still unseasonable warm here.

I will be thankful when the elections are over. I feel like the little red haired girl crying because she is so tired of the ads. Sometimes I feel like crying too.
    Five more days. Woo Hoo!!!

I am thankful for electricity, also propane, McDonald’s wifi, free coffee, gas-powered generators, and the sunshine. LOVE IW!

We are working out our plans for the holiday. I will be driving across state to get my girl. I can’t wait to chat with her face-to-face the whole way home. 🙂

Happy birthday to your children, stxmom! My daughter turns 20 this month too. I remember when she turned 10 and I thought if the next 10 years go as fast as the first 10 did…..I will be sad. Well, they did and I’m a little sad, but she’s a wonderful young lady, working her way to a nursing career.

Not sure about Thanksgiving plans……Mom recovering from surgery so I will either be cooking, or we will go out. It matters not to me, whatever my Mom is feeling up to is what we will do! Doubt I hit the Black Friday sales unless I see something I can’t live without. Did all that when the kids were younger…….sometimes it was fun, sometimes not so much. But I do enjoy going over the ads with a full tummy!!!

I grew up in one of the hardest hit area of the storm in an area called Sheepshead Bay. I can’t believe the damage that was done. Nanny Bloomberg should be ashamed of himself for diverting resources to the Marathon and not to those who are suffering.
The President came took a few photo’s and made a nice speech…..people are still looking for water and places to SHIT. I hate politicians.

Happy November. Happy birthday to your special ones, stxmom. We have two special birthdays coming up. ‘Tis the Season.

I just got back online today. It’s a mess out there. There are lots of people without power, and more without cable, internet, even cell phone reception is poor. AT&T is having trouble. NOTHING like what I see from NY and NJ though. It’s really a shame.

Before the election my phone was ringing off the hook and we answered a poll a day (but no more than that) through our land line. But there were no TV ads. When the cable came on, Mitt Romney was on the TV. He was followed by Barack Obama. It’s rare that they bother with ads in PA. Interesting that it has kicked up a few days before the election.

My daughters team won their first game of the season on Monday, it was 57-2? was a great game and I hope they can keep up this momentum into district games.

I’m sick in bed with pneumonia. Haven’t felt good since last thursday but pushed through until my temp was 102. I had lung xray and blood work yesterdy, WBC count was way low but I’m sure after the anti.biotic shot and the antibiotics I was prescibed it will be better when I go in for more bloodwork on friday. It’s times like this when I’m glad we still have our live in sitter, she’s been taking care of me.

Our new office space is ready for us to move into, phone company is coming tomorrow to fix all the phone lines, they have a few mixed up. All the new computers and printers are in my garage, I feel like holding them hostage so I can be a part of the excitement but on the other hand I wouldn’t mind missing out on all the work involved with moving an office.

Oh and congrats to your daughter and her team. I had kids that played high school basketball and it is so exciting. The whole atmosphere of it all.

Thanksgiving…..cook a meal here at home for my family. Wish I was closer to my parents and siblings and I hate air travel over Thanksgiving…it is the worst. So we are just staying put.

My family deer hunt the weekend before Thanksgiving. Deer hunting weekend was always such an exciting time when I was in my late teens and early twenties. We would celebrate a Thanksgiving meal twice…the weekend before and the day of.

Thanksgiving, I guess it is time to start thinking about that, eh? One of my favorite holidays.

Sorry, Mo, I don’t have any information on that, but I’m interested in the answer. I may be on the lookout for a new car in the next couple of years.

    Ann,

It is easy and I had a hard time finding it last year too. I was not able to find it until the week before Thanksgiving. Walmart and Target carries it

Girls won game #2 53-38, started out scary we were down 9-1 after first 5 minutes but girls pulled it together. Other team was tough but our team was able to capitalize on their mistakes.

Mo I drive a full size escalade on highway I get close to 20 mpg but I’m afraid to look what it is in town, I’m sure it’s 12 or 13 at most. I love the look of Buick Enclave, they get pretty good mpg but too small for us.

    Veteran’s Day Prayer

    Dear Lord,
    Today we honor our veterans,
    worthy men and women
    who gave their best
    when they were called upon
to serve and protect their country.
We pray that you will bless them, Lord,
    for their unselfish service
    in the continual struggle
to preserve our freedoms, our safety,
and our country’s heritage, for all of us.
    Bless them abundantly
    for the hardships they faced,
    for the sacrifices they made
    for their many different contributions
    to America’s victories
    over tyranny and oppression.
We respect them, we thank them,
we honor them, we are proud of them,
and we pray that you will watch over
    these special people
and bless them with peace and happiness.
In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.

Mojito: I have a neighbor that is 84, and she loves the Twilight movies. When she could drive; (she no longer has a vehicle after her last accident this past Spring)she would go to see the movies by herself. Now, she buys the DVD’s, and my 12 years old granddaughter watches with her.

I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit I like the Twilight movies. Haven’t read the books, and probably wouldn’t, but I find the movies entertaining. Looking forward to the final one; I’ll probably see it on Thanksgiving.

    Ann,

I did not see the Jennie O Turkey today at Target but they had one by Archer Farms that looked identical to it. It is 12 lbs and was only $20 with $5 off for your next purchase. So I bought it. I am not sure it has the gravy packet inside but that is not a big deal to me because I will buy the gravy at Honey Baked Ham when I pick up my ham.

  40. Rosemary says

    November 14, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Pam: Honey Baked Hams are my favorite. I usually buy the small boneless pre-sliced.
They usually run 3-5 lbs; That is enough for my small family with leftovers for sandwiches. I always seek out the coupons this time of year.

You are so right about the marathon. If the money spent on preparing for the marathon had been put to help those that lost everything, there would be a lot of people having a better Thanksgiving this year.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!!!

Here’s an update on our basketball season — we’ve won 5 games and lost only 1 so far. Last nights game was a big one, we played one of our rivals, score was tied most of the game, we won 47-42, 1st time we’ve beat this team in 27 yrs. Just wish we could get more people to show up to the games, makes me very sad when we play a game at home and we only have 9 or 10 people sitting on our side and the visitors side is filled up.

  46. Ann @ IW says

    Happy Thanksgiving friends!
I thought I’d share our Prayer Before Meals today:
Bless us, Oh Lord, and these, the gifts which we are about to receive,
    from Your bounty,
    through Christ Our Lord.
    Amen

  47. Ann @ IW says

I bet when they hear about your latest victory, stxmom, more people will want to cheer on the team.

  48. stxmom says

    November 22, 2012 at 5:41 am

Ann, I wish you were right but everything is about football around here. I’m not sure people even know its basketball season.

Unfortunately our big win was not even in the newspaper since its the home teams responsibility to report it to the newspaper and we were the visitors in that game.

  49. Pam@IW says

    November 23, 2012 at 7:32 am

    stxmom,

Wow, that was a big win! Why no crowd? Is it only for the girls or do the boys have a low turn out also?

  50. stxmom says

    November 23, 2012 at 8:46 pm

Pam, the boys start their season a week after the girls start, they have just as much trouble drawing a crowd as the girls do. Right before Christmas break the boys & girls schedules finally match up and everyone is playing at the same place the rest of the season, then we have a few more fans because both the boys & girls parents are there. It’s been like this for ss long as we’ve lived here.

Our football team lost in the 2nd round of playoffs, while I’m sad they lost I’m relieved that no more basketball games will be rescheduled to accommodate football

  51. Ann says

    November 24, 2012 at 5:00 am

Wow. I have heard that TX is all about football. I am not sure what it is about football that it attracts not just most of the attention but *all* of the attention in a community.

My daughter’s cross country team went to states this year- both the girls and boys team. THAT is a rare event- to have both teams qualify. One of her friends did VERY well. The school had NOTHING to say about it. Very disappointing. People just didn’t know/care. The coach complained at the dinner that the school didn’t even put it on announcements! This was a point of pride for the school, and they missed the chance to congratulate that team.

I don’t even want to tell you how long the “state championships” celebrations lasted (all year) when the football team won states two years ago.

  52. stxmom says

    November 24, 2012 at 5:56 am

Ann, when our football team is in playoffs and the game is on a friday that we have school, school is released early so the team can use all the buses, disrupts everyones life but they need all the buses because they take the JV, Freshman and all middle school players too. I like to watch high school football and I’m proud of the success and tradition of our school’s team but it irritates me when the girls basketball team was just dropped off at a basketball tournament that was about 20 miles away and the bus had to return to the school for something, the girls were their all day and expected to just eat from the concession stand instead of going somewhere for a decent lunch.
