Love October! It is one of my favorite months. For sports fans, football dominates the weekends whether it is high school, college or pro and baseball is getting ready for the exciting post season play that leads to the World Series.
Farmers will be bringing in the last of the fall crops and apple picking is in full swing. Birds are flying south getting ready for the winter and the first frost usually happens in October. The leaves are turning magnificent colors and there are colorful pumpkins and gourds everywhere!
Don’t even get my started on Halloween or fall foods. I love it all! What are some of your favorite things that you look forward to in October?
We would also like to give a shout out to everyone with a birthday (Happy Birthday Mom!) or anniversary this month! Let us know in the comment section below so we can celebrate with you. Please use this thread for Open Discussion as always!
Happy, happy October to everyone! Hope it is cool where you are all at because it is not here. We have had two straight months of very toasty temps and today is suppose to be another lovely balmy 106 degrees.
Please come and join us for next month’s informal Book Nook. The October selection for our informal Book Club is On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves.
We are discussing “The Help” right now. https://imperfectwomen.com/book-review-the-help/
Good morning ladies,
Oct is here and we have cooled off some, harvest is still progressing in my area, the lawn has a blanket of leaves this morning, and we have a nice breeze from the N.E. The neighborhood is sure looking like Halloween is not far away, pumpkins and corn stalks are going up along with some ghosts and witches.
Snickers, you make me so jealous. I want and crave fall.
Good afternoon ladies. It’s fall here where I am too. Lots of leaves falling, cool crisp air in the mornings….the kind where you need the car heater on in the morning, and the AC on for the drive home. I see lots of mums, bales of hay and pumpkins and gourds on porches and corn stalks on sides of driveways. I have made one batch of Easy Caramel Apple Bars, gone in 4 days and bought the ingredients to make another. I love having my windows open, I love the fresh air. Football has taken over Friday nights, and you see Homecoming couples at Olive Garden on Saturday nights……lol Happy Fall Y’all!
Ok, Kmom2. Spill it. What is the recipe. Sounds so good.
Finally having cooler weather here.
October is crazy busy for us with 2 playing soccer and high school basketball for my oldest daughter. My little boy had to move up to U8 soccer this season, I’m sad, I’ll miss the days of laughing at little ones scoring in the wrong goal. Haven’t thought about halloween costumes yet, I’ve heard the kids talking about it but don’t think any decisions have been made yet.
Here it is…..it’s a Betty Crocker recipe. I use 2 to 3 cups of apples because I like a lot of apples. I also use Granny Smith apples because I like the tart/sweet taste. These are super easy, buttery and gooey. ENJOY!
1/2 cup cold butter
1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® oatmeal cookie mix
1 egg
1 cup finely chopped peeled apple
3/4 cup caramel topping
1/4 cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1 Heat oven to 350°F. Spray bottom of 13×9-inch pan with cooking spray.
2 In large bowl, cut butter into cookie mix using fork or pastry blender. Stir in egg until mixture is crumbly.
3 Reserve 1 1/2 cups cookie mixture. Press remaining cookie mixture into bottom of pan. Bake 15 minutes. Sprinkle apple evenly over crust. In small bowl, mix caramel topping and flour; drizzle over apples. Sprinkle reserved cookie mixture over apples.
4 Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely, about 2 hours. For bars, cut into 9 rows by 4 rows.
I should say that 1 cup of apples spread around a 13×9 pan isn’t very much so I increased the apples and it made the bars much better.
Thank you Kmom2. That looks delicious! And seems really easy.
We have a contest going for all of you that is really easy to enter. All you have to do is answer the question of the day in the comment section. There will be a new question every day through next Tuesday.

Happy October to everyone! It’s finally supposed to be cooler here… highs in the 40’s this weekened. Whoohoo!
It is really easy Pam. Very good too. I like to warm them up and put ice cream and drizzle more caramel on top. NOMMY! lol
Kmom2.
I am going to make the bars, yummy!
You will love them Snickers! Easy and tasty!
Tomorrow is the beginning of girls high school basketball. I spent part of the morning thinking of something meaningful to post on my daughters facebook wall to let her know how proud I am of her and I cried like a baby the entire time I was typing it. Not sure why I was so emotional.
Stxmom, I hope you keep us up to date this basketball season. What grade is your daughter in?
I have a question….I had a sick dog over the weekend and he had an accident on my couch. It is Microfiber Leather. Any good products to get the smell out? I used mild soap and water. Then I tried Vinegar. Still smells.
Pam,
I have heard if you wet the area, then put soda on it and leave unill it all dries out, it would help?? Then just vac up.
Pam she is only a junior. New coach this year, going to be interesting to say the least. Ill try to keep you updated.
Not sure how to get rid of the smell. Good luck.
Hope your all enjoying fall. It’s still hot here, we are still hitting 90’s everyday. I’m ready for cooler weather, not jeans & sweater weather but a little cooler would be welcomed.
Hey everyone, having some fun here…..Take a look at our new design up on top….and also our small saying on the upper right hand side.
Some days I feel like an imperfect witch. No days do I feel like an angel. Mostly just imperfect me.
LOL….Rosemary. Well for one week we can all be that inner witch
Lol Rosemary…I think you just described all of us! 😉
I love the banner. That is freakin awesome!
.
I think I’m a Good witch today. Could it be because it’s Friday? I think so!
.
Kmom, meant to comment on your recipe. Thanks for posting. It looks delish and I’m going to be sure to try it out soon.
Yesterday was the first scrimmages of this basketball season. Our team scrimmaged 2 other teams and just have to say our team looked good. We have a new coach, he is complete opposite of our last coach, girls all seem to like & respect him. I think good things are going to happen this season.
stxmom, sounds great! Hope your daughter has a fun solid season.
Respect is key.
Stxmom that is really great! I can’t wait to hear more as the season progresses!
Happy Halloween!!
Happy Halloween. Be safe!
