Welcome December and Season’s Greetings! For those in the cooler regions, Winter officially begins on the 21st. When the snow and wind begin to blow, Pattypie’s Chicken-Pot-Pie will be on the menu. Have you ever seen a more comforting and cozy dinner?
December 1st is World AIDS Day. “Getting To Zero,” the theme which began in 2011 will stay in place until 2015. As AIDS continues to cause suffering and loss of life, Academy-Award-winning Charlize Theron is focused on that goal. Born and raised in South Africa, she began the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program in 2007. CTAOP is dedicated to reducing HIV/AIDS and sexual violence among African youth. In addition to education and awareness, mobile medical clinics travel to rural areas where care is scarce or non-existent.
Please be aware of calendars as it is now International Calendar Awareness Month. I’m not sure if this is a warning or an honor. Information was sketchy. As the start of 2013 is soon upon us, be it from a bank, on your iPad or cell, if you are visiting a foreign country; stay mindful of those calendars.
Let’s also all take a moment to reflect upon the Tie. December is also the month of National Tie Awareness. What kind of world would we live in had this fashion accessory not existed? “Is it formal or casual?” “Which one goes best?” To never to hear a tie-stain joke? To miss the rite of passage as father teaches this skill to his son? Yes, this nation owes a lot to the tie and I believe we should each celebrate in our own way.
December 3rd is National Roof Over Your Head Day. In perfect demonstration of thankfulness for our homes and charity towards those who have none; the kindness of NYPD Officer Larry DePrimo buying socks and boots for a barefoot homeless man has gone viral.
Don’t forget to share your recipes and enter IW’s “Tis The Season…For Sharing Recipes.” The recipe exchange will remain open indefinitely but the Cash-Giveaway portion will end at midnight eastern time on December 6th.
The second Sunday falls on the 9th, which is when the 40th Annual Honolulu Marathon will take place. With more than 20,000 runners, the 26-mile tropical course continues to be one of USA’s largest marathons.
Tis the season for gift-wrapping. For creative and smart looking presents, check out The Crafty Wrapper’s “Crafty Gift Wrapping Ways.”
