If you are like me, you have been eagerly waiting for Dancing with the Stars to launch again since Donny Osmond took home the mirrored disco ball last November. Monday night at 8 o’clock, we will finally get our first look at this season’s cast. For first time viewers, here is short primer on what to expect.
Stars + Partners
Soap star Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinkska
Legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Ashly Costa
NFL star Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke, 800-868-3401
ESPN host Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Olympic skating champion Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya
Bachelor star Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower
TLC star Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani, 800-868-3410
Pop star Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough
Comedienne and host Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel, 800-868-3405
Actress and model Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood
Actress Shannen Doherty and Mark Ballas
Note: ABC hasn’t updated their voting page yet, but traditionally voting has been done both online and phone. A few of the dancing pros have already tweeted their “number” for the season. Where you see a telephone number following their name (above) that is their number for the season.
The Hosts
Brooke Burke – Season 7 winner and television personality Brook Burke joins DWTS this season and will be handling backstage interviews. Ms. Burke is a mom of four (!) and blogs at www.ModernMom.com. She recently shared her admiration for Kate Gosselin announcing that anyone who can handle eight kids can “handle anything in the world.”
Tom Bergeron – Emmy Award-winning host Tom Bergeron returns for another season as host of DWTS. His unscripted banter helps to keep the show both entertaining and funny.
The Judges
Bruno Tonioli – passionate and hyper. Usually good for at least one inappropriate quip during the show.
Carrie Ann Inaba – tougher than Paul Abdul, but strives to give constructive feedback to the stars no matter how rhythm-challenged they are.
Len Goodman – definitely old school and can be cantankerous at times, but he is actually a teddy bear once you have watched him for a while. If you score a “9” or “10” from Len, you know you have really made it.
In a depature from previous seasons, no star will be voted out this week. Stars are kept safe or voted out based on a combination scoring system that uses both the judges scores and the audience votes.
Stars will perform either the Cha Cha or Viennese Waltz during their first night of competition.
So will you be watching???
Update on Kate
Kate’s partner, Tony Dovolani, gave a very revealing interview with TV Guide about his partnership with Kate. It sounds like you can ignore the rumors that Tony has been bad-mouthing Kate. He has nothing but positive and kind things to say about the supposed diva. A small sample:
TVGuide.com: How often do you rehearse?
Dovolani: Every day for six hours a day at her home in Pennsylvania. The rest of the time, she’s with her kids. People think she’s away from her kids and she’s not. She’s a single working mom. Instead of being supportive of her, they’re bashing her. I don’t understand that. My sister told me, “Tell Kate that all of us mothers understand and we’re standing behind her.” To hear that confirms that I’m thinking the right way. She has to provide for those kids. They’re so sweet! They came up with a routine they showed us one day! Once in a while we perform for them. She’s a great mother. They’re all over her.
TVGuide.com: She’s a very divisive figue. Are you concerned about how that will affect voting?
Dovolani: I’m new to this whole thing about hating somebody and I don’t understand why people hate her. Our show is so positive that it’s going to be difficult to hate someone. I love our show. It’s the only show you can watch with the whole family. For me, it’s mindboggling to think people think negatively in general, let alone at someone they don’t know. I guess if you’re a hater, don’t watch when we’re dancing. … Honestly, I think the side she has shown — not what the tabloids have shown — there’s nothing wrong with her. She’s a mom taking care of her kids. She doesn’t buy into the tabloids. She’s a great role model for her kids.

Lastly, many fan pages are being created for the stars and their dancing partners on Facebook. Tony and Kate’s page has more than 3,000 members. If you are interested in joining, check it out at: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=338612104089
I am so excited! I would be excited even if it weren’t for the Gosselin connection, as I love the show. I really like all the judges (especially Carrie Ann and Len), and Tom Bergeron is a hoot. Brooke Burke will make a good replacement for Samantha Harris, I think.
Great interview with Tony – I think he “gets” Kate, which is good.
I’m also glad that they are starting with the waltz – I’m a little scared to see Kate try a Latin dance. I usually like the Latin dances better but I feel like for the average viewer (not the technical eyes of the judges), it’s easier to look good doing one of the slower dances.
Thanks for the great update Anya. Yes, I will be watching. I am excited to see what Kate can do. I saw a video of her and Tony and Kate’s first practice. I thought “wow, he’s got a lot of work to do.” But, I think Kate’s determination is going to take her past the first couple of weeks. No one gets voted off tonight. Right? But, we still vote?
When you think about it, she’s so out of her element with the dancing and shooting this type of show. Man, I hope me she makes a bunch of $s or maybe walks away w/some great endorsement opportunities. I can see Kate doing tv commercials. She’s already done those in-store WalMart ads. GO Kate!
I’ll def be around tonight. 🙂 This will be fun.
I can’t wait to watch! I am really loving Tony now. What a great guy! I hope Kate knocks the judges socks off – something tells me she will do great!
Thanks Anya – I didn’t know who most of those people were. What I find funny is that Kate isn’t a “star” but the guy from The Bachelor is? Ha! Love hearing from her partner.
I love this show and watch every season. So glad Kate is going to be on and hope people vote for her so she stays. I saw the youtube video of her practicing the waltz and although she didn’t have it down pat I think she was getting it and looked rather graceful with what she could do, not clumsy and awkward like some.
i was just coming to post a link to that article! i love how tony talks about kate and says his wife is a fan of hers…and most importantly how he doesn’t understand haters. that says it all to me. that most people do not understand the mindset of a gwopper. that is reality.
If I read correctly, no one will be eliminated this week. I don’t think the show is on tomorrow. That should make for a more relaxing opening without the pressure. Eliminations start next week. I am sure that a certain group of people feel that this is all TLC and Kates doing.
They wanted to make sure she wasn’t eliminated the first night. LOL
I watched the show sporadically over the years but I will watch this year.
It just started and Kate got the same applause and cheers as every other star. She looks less-starlike than the others. Is it because I know her so much better than the others? She’s next to Pamela Anderson. Ha! Quite a difference.
“Hardest-working mom in America”
She looks a bit nervous/humble.
Chad looks like an amateur who has been working and trying hard to learn to dance. Hey, I think this is a neat show. I should have watched sooner.
Ack, I missed the first dance trying to get some dishes done. 🙂 I’m here now. I remember the one judge from The Soup Clips.
I am always late to the game, LOL. 3 hours late. Not fair.
I am texting Kate’s number to my daughter’s play rehearsal so all those kids can vote for her. They will miss a few weeks of the show, but they want to vote anyway. She said they all like Kate, because they were fans of J&K+8.
Shannon seems stiff. Very pretty though.
Well, Shannon ALSO looks like an amateur who practiced really hard to learn the waltz. Good for her.
Oh, I like this judge with the accent. He’s funny. I’m hooked. My youngest is watching with me saying this show is not as good as So You Think You Can Dance? (which we love.) She doesn’t like the “beginner” status of the stars yet. If they do improve, I think she’ll be hooked, too.
ETA: Same score as Chad’s. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of stiff dancers tonight, lol.
I’m stuck going back and forth between DWTS and Secret Life of the American Teenager (what a lousy show), with my daughter. I hope Kate isn’t on until the second hour.
I know, I am a harsh critic in this area.
I like Max, he seems like a true teacher. They were awesome!!!!
Erin is the best so far, IMO. She looks great, if a little nervous at first. I hate the music.
I am so nervous for Kate. And I wonder who is in the audience for her?
Pam, we’re here for you! Just keep reading IW. I do not have to do the late run for carpool tonight! I’m staying home and watching DWTS. Kiki, keep the site open and we’ll warn you when Kate is coming up next.
They aren’t showing who is the audience are they? I am looking forward to the clip of Kate and Tony practicing. I want to see the basement remodel, lol.
ETA: Erin gets a better score. She deserved it.
Lol, Erin wanted Tony for a partner (and says, “Sorry Kate!”)
I had trouble watching The Bachelor because my eyes were draw to his beautiful partner. She’s so graceful.
LOL, I kept waiting for him to be a clod. I love that Song.
I have reached my max on call-in. I’m going to the ABC board to see if I can vote there. I wanted to register today.
I can’t wait to see both Buzz and Kate.
Scores are ranging from 18-21 out of 30 so far. Lily, what is the max for voting? Can I vote on multiple phones, lol? We have about 6 laying around this house now.
ETA: Niecy Nash certainly has personality. She’ll be competing with Pam Anderson for those points. She’s very comfortable in front of an audience, lol.
She’s funny. She’s dedicating her dancing to “thick girls” everywhere. I like her.
They showed Chad’s son and Shannon’s parents.
Wow, Evan knows how to dance, doesn’t he? He looked fabulous, elegant, clean, relaxed.
I caught Niecy’s performance, but didn’t get to see her scores. I like her, and her dancing didn’t seem too bad.
I just went to register to vote online, and apparently I had registered at ABC.com four years ago. I have no idea why.
That’s right Paige. I wonder if someone will be there for Kate? I have a feeling she wants the kids in bed right after they vote, lol.
I am in love with Buzz Aldrin. He dances better than my husband, lol.
Wow, I’ve never watched DWTS b4 but now I kind of get it. This is fun, boy does it look like a lot of work though. Even the most seasoned stars look a little nervous, I hope someone is in the audience for Kate. If I was her I would be shaking in my heels. I’m actually feeling a little nervous for Kate, I so hope she does well.
Ann, I think it was about 10. I didn’t count. I just kept hitting redial while I was watching.
If I knew where I put my charger, I would txt. 🙂
Buzz is a good sport, but I was a little worried for him. I guess the judges don’t let sentiment get in the way of the scores.
I’m back full time now. Fortunately, that was the last Teenager show of the season, so it won’t interfere anymore.
LOL, Kiki. I’m glad it’s over for you (and glad my teen never got into it.)
Momsby, I am a little nervous for her too.
Wow, Nicole was also excellent. She’s obviously done something like this before. She’s really a beautiful woman. I LOVE these dresses.
I hit my limit with one phone. Onto the next, lol.
I had a feeling that the Pussy Cat Doll and Derek were going to be good! He and his sister are the only prof dancer’s I know of. Does anyone know if he’s won before?
Ha, thanks Ann! Usuallly she has better taste.
Is anyone else picturing a redheaded woman, and her sister, sitting in front of their tvs, sticking pins into, and twisting the legs of, their Kate voodoo dolls?
How long can we vote by phone after the show is over?
Wow, two nines on the first night!
Wow, this is a lot of people. No wonder they cut the #s down.
LOL, I thought Nic and Derek were beautiful too. I missed the intro for them while I was getting my tea. I was watching the wrong person too intently thinking Wow! he is such a pro. That was the pussy cat girl. So very nice.
I feel sorry for Kate and Pam having to go after Nicole. I couldn’t tell if the soap guy was dancing well, because I was mesmerized by what Edyta was almost wearing.
I don’t think the soap guy was all that great. At first I was watching her, but she was clearly light years ahead of him in talent, and it was noticeable. He wasn’t all that comfortable. Oh well, he’s brave to try.
Nicole is in a class by herself.
I think there are 11 dancers?
Is there a limit to texting? My daughter and I sent over 20 each, and we’re getting bored. The limit is 11 online.
Here comes Kate. Go, Kate!
Aw, not that great, but all my votes go to her anyway!
Point your toes next week, Kate.
Great smile.
“It looked like Tony was pushing a shopping cart.” Ouch!
Kate’s still smiling. And getting credit for never performing or being an athlete. She has a “sweet vulnerability.” True. She did look pretty and sweet.
I wonder…
what was Jon thinking?
Not the best dance performance for sure but Kate did herself proud getting out there and doing it. Good for her.
Carrie Ann was sweet. Kate wasn’t the greatest, but she wasn’t the worst, either. Hmm, I thought she was supposed to slap Tony around and argue with the judges. Oh well, people will find stuff to criticize her for anyway.
Great song choice, I’ve always loved that song. She may have some work but I thought the female judge had some helpful hints. Just getting out there and dancing makes her a winner in my books. YIKES, no way could I do that. I think her partner seems like a cutie patootie, I like him already!
OK, here’s my prediction: Pam Anderson is going to win this if they let her do the cha-cha every week. She can, ahem, dance!
Can’t wait to see what Pam does with a waltz.
Momsby, I agree about the song choice. She’s keeping it conservative, isn’t she? It goes with her image. I think it was a great decision for Kate to do DWTS. Who can hate her after this?
Can’t wait to see what Pam does with a waltz.-Kiki
I suspect she’ll do a cha-cha with the waltz, lol.
I thought Pam and her partner deserved higher marks. She looked so on the mark, I thought it was incredible. It helps to have no inhibitions. 🙂
I enjoyed the audience response to the shopping cart remark about Kate. I knew she was stiff and stilted a couple of times, but she did so well!! The waltz is such a fancy dance, I never know. It was so nice to see her smile and have some fun w/this!
Momsby – I looked it up to be sure – Derek won Season 7 with Brooke Burke (the new co-host).
I heard Buzz and Kate got all 5’s. Did anyone else get the same or lower?
Sounds like Bruno was in fine form. Not very nice, but you have to have a thick skin about these comments.
DWTS is such a positive show for the most part. It is fun to see the better performers, but it is also rewarding to see some of the stars improve. I hope Kate is one of them, but she is ahead of the game in just being chosen. I think the show averages around 19 million? Huge exposure for her.
Go Kate!
I suspect she’ll do a cha-cha with the waltz, lol. – Ann
🙂
i think she did well! she looked great! and you can tell she was nervous and vulnerable. but she did very well. i thought she was going to cry at the second judges comments but in the end she was smiling at him…she did well!!!!!!
i think she did as well as chad, shannen, better than buzz (he was very stilted but i’m sure it’s b/c of his age-not being snarky), i missed the others.
i have never seen this show before. i voted once on my phone but i could hardly get through. does anyone know what tony and kate’s score was?
She earned a 17, so they weren’t all 5’s, Anya. That’s one point lower than Chad and Shannen. I think the soap star got low points, too.
She came across as unpolished. I think that suits her image, though. I thought she was stiff in her first “The View” appearances, but got better with practice and familiarity. I imagine she’ll get better with each week, or she’ll collect her big money and get to come home. She should be proud. 🙂
Wow Nicole really set the bar. Two 9’s for her first dance. She really looked elegant and like she said the waltz is so different from the dances she did with The Pussy Cat Dolls.
Kate did a nice job no matter what Bruno dsaid. Carrie Ann had some kind words like she said Bruno could use a lesson in tact.
Does anyone know who was in the audience for her? I think they showed a woman, maybe her sister?
Thanks Ladies and thanks for the info ANYA. It was fun to watch with you all, my husband was at a meeting…good thing he does not understand my interest in Kate. Plus I’d have had to listen to him whine about the show for 2hrs..much more enjoyable to watch with women who get it.
I actually Kate did really well given where she was coming from–having never danced before. And I agree with her assessment that she is scared and vulnerable, and unsure of herself and that probably made the actual performance part hard. I think all that made her more endearing. All my votes went there, I really hope she does well.
Thanks to the east coasters for giving us a preview. I actually prefer to know ahead of time what to expect.
I am glad to hear Kate’s scores weren’t the lowest. As I understand it, these week’s scores will be combined with next weeks so that is a lot of incentive to improve. Plus, the opening night butterflies will hopefully be gone. I really feel for all the stars who don’t have professional dance backgrounds. It’s not easy to face making a fool of yourself, but I admire anyone (not just Kate) giving it a try.
Kimmie, just a reminder to anyone having trouble getting through on the phone, you can vote at http://cdn.abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/vote. It’s pretty fast. I have already voted with my email addresses (10 votes per email address). It took less than 5 minutes.
Bruno is a drama queen. I voted for Kate. Now that she got the first night jitters out of the way, she’ll probably do better next week. She was probably nervous waiting all night to go on. I know I would be.
Carrie Anne was right…she’s not an athlete or an actress. I think Pamela Anderson not only cha cha’d her body, but was really just acting the dance. You know?
I thought Brooke Burke was ten times better than Samantha Harris! Samantha Harris and Tom Bergeron had zero chemistry. Also, she had a problem talking. A bit of a slur. But kudos to Brooke.
Can’t wait for next week!
I just re-read what I wrote…Samantha Harris is the one who slurred. She talked under her breath.
Brooke did a great job.
Erin and Maks were so cute together. Really like them.
I thought Kate did very well also considering she has not danced before. Did anyone catch the beginning when they did the introductions Kate whispers Hi Kids made me smile inside. It was a good show and I hope Kate gets to stay on for a while.
Theresa, I agree, I like Brooke a lot and thought she was a big improvement.
Pam, I like Erin and Maks too.
As for Kate, I kept my expectations low and I don’t think she awful. The routine was not as demanding as some of the others. I thought her arm movements were pretty decent, but her footwork isn’t there yet. I think she will need to work on her confidence if she is going to last more than a couple of weeks.
Pamela Anderson – I honestly didn’t have a strong opinion on her before this show, but she was trying way too hard in my opinion. I am hardly a prude, but this a family show and I swear I caught Pam fake biting her partner a couple of times – ? Yuck!
Carrie Ann was sweet. Kate wasn’t the greatest, but she wasn’t the worst, either.
I agree. I think she was incredibly nervous. Her lack of reaction when the judges were giving their remarks indicated to me that she was just trying to hold it together.
I’m hoping she does better next week.
Other than Kate, I liked Niecy (more for her personality than her dance) and Erin (for her personality and her dance). Nicole will be fun to watch, but I do think she has a bit of an unfair advantage. None of the men made much of an impression on me, except Buzz, and that was because he was terrible (I’m meaner than the judges, apparently).
Pam got on my last nerve, too. She had good movement (looked like really good footwork to my admittedly unexpert eyes) but the over-the-top sexiness just made her look trashy and a bit pathetic to me. And I wanted to tell her to brush her hair.
According to Dial Idol, Kate got the most votes by a lot.
http://stars.dialidol.com/asp/predictions/predictions.asp
I watched and love Kate- but I thought (even for a first week) the dance was horrible. I know this a whole new thing for her, but even her smile was tight and stiff. I also hated the look. The half -pulled -back hair looked like 80’s prom night. I want her to stay- hope she does and hope she is able to loosen up!
Kate got the most votes? Cue the conspiracy theories.
Kiki, LMAO
That’s great about the Dial Idol thing. I hope people like her just for trying. Which is what Kate said too (para). I know I did. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of dance she’ll being doing next week.
I was proud of how Kate did. I thought the song was appropriate. Yes, she looked stiff, but she’s a newbie. I think she will loosen up and get better. I predict we’ll see a huge improvement by next week.
My favs so far are Chad, Niecy, Evan and Nicole – but I think Nicole has an unfair advantage.
Nancy- I hope so! She had the most awkward leg movements Ive ever seen. I would have liked to have seen her do the cha-cha. Do they pick or is it picked for them?
Diane, I thought that was cute too, when Kate said “hi kids”.
Pam, I think Erin and Max were well matched as a pair. They have chemistry. Jimmy Kimmel picked her as the winnner this year. He has been correct in his picks a couple of times. (he picked Helio, Kristi Yamguchi, and Donny O to win and they did). He did a NCAA bracket on them… http://abc.go.com/watch/clip/jimmy-kimmel-live/SH005455790000/20957/255059
I hope Niecy is kicked off next week. She rubs me the wrong way.
Paige, thanks so much for that link. That is very interesting information. Based on this, I would be concerned for Aiden (low judges score + low viewing audience votes), unless he improves next week.
I really am glad all the performers are getting two chances. It seems unfair for someone to get voted off the first week when they have put so much effort in.
I do think Aiden and Buzz were the worst. Kate was better than them, but needs to step it up if she is going to be in the middle of the pack. I am not expecting miracles, but hope with hard work and Tony’s patience, we can see improvement next week.
Theresa, you didn’t care for Niecy? I actually like her. Anything in particular about her? At least we agree on Kate! 🙂
Samantha, I am pretty sure the stars don’t get a final say as what dance they will do, although they might get to lobby the producers. If anyone knows for sure, please chime in!
Anya, I think it’s her in general know-it-all attitude. That’s how she comes off to me. Couple that with how I really didn’t care how she trash talked and ripped apart Kate on the Insider. In fact, I used to really like Lara Spencer til they went the way of trashy tabloid opinion. Can’t stand that guy or Samantha Harris either because just who are these people to give us their one-sided opinion/rip apart on TV people they don’t know?
For the next DWTS, I’d like to see Jimmy Kimmel do it. More likely, he’ll have Guillermo or Uncle Frank do it before he would because it’s such a time consuming thing to do along with a talk show. But, I think it’d be funny.
I’m not sure, but I think everyone does the same dances, just not on the same night. Like, next week the waltzers will cha-cha and vice versa.
I’ve read several places that saying “hi kids” is using them for the pity vote. And saying that the kids can “rest easy” after she was finished dancing, means she’s a bad mom, and the kids shouldn’t have to worry about her. Imagine what they would say if she didn’t even mention the kids.
And even though she didn’t talk back, and tried to keep a smile on her face, she was spotted giving the judges the evil eye. I’d like to know how many people would stand there grinning after being compared to a shopping cart? That’s not exactly constructive criticism. But apparently nobody in the history of the show has ever been upset with the judges reactions.
I like Niecy too. I gave her one of my votes.
I’ve read several places that saying “hi kids” is using them for the pity vote. And saying that the kids can “rest easy” after she was finished dancing, means she’s a bad mom, and the kids shouldn’t have to worry about her. Imagine what they would say if she didn’t even mention the kids.
If that’s the case, then was Shannen’s crying over her dad trying to get the pity vote? Any of them displaying the slightest hint of vulnerability means that they are being manipulative? Or is it just Kate?
And even though she didn’t talk back, and tried to keep a smile on her face, she was spotted giving the judges the evil eye. She may have been upset by the criticism but she just looked to me like she was freaking out and trying to hold it all together. I’ve seen Kate in her comfort zone and she was not there last night. Hopefully, having gotten over this first hurdle, she can relax a bit.
ITA Jennie. It looked like she was just holding it together. I am glad she didn’t get teary eyed. She was probably upset with herself for not letting loose and relaxing.
I think she’ll work hard this week and on losing her inhibitions. Funny, Pam Anderson has no inhibitions and Kate has a lot of them. 🙂
I know too that if I were going last, I’d have to fill myself up with Immodium because I’d be way too nervous waiting around for almost 2 hours to get my dance done.
OMG that made me laugh….and how true!
I think Kate did just fine and I love that she’s ahead in the voting! She must be a lot more popular than the “haters” ever realized.
Theresa, thanks for the info. on Niecy.
I agree “The Insider” with Lara Spencer is trashy and stupid (even for an entertainment news show). I not sure what Niecy had to say about Kate, but it seems they make sure the panel each has a different “POV” to share and the more outrageous their opinions, the better. As if anyone cares what Star Jones thinks about Kate anyway!
It’s annoying because Kate gets discussed and dismissed so much by so many and most commentators seem to get their “facts” from US magazine covers. Aarrgghh.
I know there must be a lot of articles out there today. Here is one from the New York Times crediting Kate, Buzz and Pamela as the reason for the record high season premiere.
Here is another one from the Washington Post.
I watched last night, just to see how Kate did, but I have watched the show other seasons before. My heart broke for her. She looked horribly nervous, going next to last probably had her anxiety going nuts. I didn’t know what to expect but was surprised she was so stiff- nerves and no natural dance ability I presume. Bruno’s comment was harsh. I’m glad Len and Carrie Ann were kinder because poor Kate looked like she was either mad or ready to cry. I know I would have been holding in the tears… lol. She looked beautiful, tried and hopefully will be back and have a bit more fun with it. She set out to do it, she did it and she should be proud of herself. I didn’t see anything about the “hi kids” and pity vote….. come on….. what about the “Hi Moms/Dads” over the seasons, the Shannen’s story, the previous “I’m doing this for”…… how about Pam Anderson doing it for “Auntie Vi”. I think it was sweet…. no matter what they say about her she does love her kids! I’d rather watch Kate grow than Pam Anderson hoochi mama it up for the next few weeks…. just my 2 cents.
I didn’t vote…… I’m going to go see if I still can. Go Kate!!! Have fun!!!
Kate’s Numbers:
Wow, I hope the internet rumor is true and she negotiated a higher episodic rate. Those are good voting numbers. Those kind of numbers can keep you in for a bit. Last year Kelly Osborne started out sweet but not good. Her second week, Latin, was even worse. Len yelled at her. Her voting numbers kept her in but her hard work and improvement carried her to the semi-finals. So if Kate wants to do this she needs to start improving before the big numbers taper off. I know that she likes the talking head thing she does with audiences at the shows she does but I am sure this is not her first choice for stardom. I hope the votes help her relax some and just enjoy it. The judges talked to her about a persona so I hope she can at least do well enough to be happy with herself.
Where did the numbers come from? I really think she has a fan base. Then there are the internet funsters. And last but probably not least there are a whole bunch of folks that hate the haters more than the haters hate Kate. I think sometimes those of us that comment and post and read blogs forget about the majority of the population that emails without ever surfing the net.
And then the ratings! I hope whatever show she has in the works that she is getting some major money. Those are dynamite ratings and given the fact that Kate got more than half the votes I think those are her numbers.
Dancers:
I didn’t think Evan was that good. He looked very stiff and his posture was just wrong. He didn’t have much charm. Pam was a mess. I wonder if she had some liquid courage. The fox trot next week will tell the tale. Chad O might have what it takes and Cheryl does well with athletes. He really does have a natural flow to him. Derek and Nicole, man that is a ringer. Now last season Len decided Mya was a professional dancer and started scoring her as one. So Nicole might have a hard road. Shannon needs to take lessons on courage from Kate. I am not voting for tears every time the judges get nasty. Anyone notice that people don’t like Edyta? I’m not surprised she has the lowest vote count. I don’t know why they don’t but they don’t. People LOVE Louis and that always shows in the voting.
Next Dance:
Anyone that did smooth ballroom this week will do latin rhythm next. They said the waltzers will do jive and the cha-cha folks will do fox trot. So someone like Pam is going to have a hard time with smooth and someone like Aiden will have a hard time with jive. I think if Kate stays in longer than 3-4 weeks that she will need to finish the season in LA. Once the group is down to 5 dancers they start to present two dances a week. Last year they started throwing in these random dances that had Derek Hough with a book trying to figure out what the dance was. I didn’t enjoy it. The first couple of years they would show you what a feckle was etc. I wish they would do that again and drop all the blah blah with Brooke. Oh and let those dancers sit down! Kate and Pam stood for hours and then danced?
I wasn’t able to vote! I will try to remember next week if Kate stays. I just did a little surfing. I think the numbers were so high because the Kate fans watched to see her do well and the Khaters watched to see her fail. I think she did fine, stiff, but fine…. she can only get better and have more fun. Did anyone else see the photos of her “new hair”? A short bob, grown out previous hairstyle without the extensions. I really liked it on her. I loved the long flowing hair, but know just how hard that is to keep up with. So so like the shorter hair but felt it made her look hard. I like her better in shorter fun hair. I hope she sticks with the cut I just saw on…. oh heck, to much surfing I can’t recall.
And last but probably not least there are a whole bunch of folks that hate the haters more than the haters hate Kate. -MarieS
This is an interesting way to put it. I like it.
I watched Pam again on Hulu and I liked her even more the second time around. I see I am in the minority, but I thought she did a great cha-cha. It’s supposed to be sexy. She earned bonus points!
I enjoyed watching. I haven’t watched DWTS in a long time. I enjoyed Pam’s dance, too Ann:).
I think if Kate and Buzz stay, it will be because of their fans, not because they can dance. I think Niecy is funny. I think the male celebrities have it easier. They kind of stand there, while their partners twirl around them repeatedly.
So Nicole might have a hard road.-MarieS
I’ve never seen Pam Anderson in interviews lately, but she did sound a bit tipsy the other night. Maybe that was the way she talks (the little girl “oops” sound to her voice), I don’t know. I thought the same thing remembering about Mya, wondering if Nicole would have the same restrictions on her from Len. He was rather adamant about not liking her performance, yet gave her a 7.

I think the girl professional dancers up their game because most of the men lack the rhythm and are stiff. It’s funny how we the viewing audience realize that and the judges for the most part don’t scold the gal dancers. Although, I now do remember a couple of them pointing it out in past seasons.
I like Edyta. I hope she can move along in the competition. She never gets a partner who is good enough to move on in the competition.
Anybody catch the rambing that Evan’s pro partner did when Brooke interviewed them? That was funny when he said to her, “what are you talking about?”
I certainly agree with the majority on here and give Kate an absolute A for effort!! I would expect Kate to be a little stiff and nervous, but that would be true of most women out there who have never taken a step onto a dancing floor…and on LIVE TV…NO LESS! Having said “all of the above” I have never really agreed with DWTS having people (like the Pussycat Dolls girl and/or the ice skater) compete with people that have ZERO experience on the dance floor. In fact, that’s pretty much while I quit watching a few years ago.
IMO, Kate is the type of “star” that this competition was originally designed for…but what do I know??? I’m just a stay at home mom! ha!:)
I haven’t dared to go over to the haters site ( I just can’t stomach their lies, manipulations and mistruths). I don’t think that I will ever understand what it takes to make a group of people exude such HATE in all they do and with such vengenance.
I voted for Kate as many times as I could from my home phone, but need to get busy texting AND emailing as well. Does anyone know what the “cut off period” might be for voting??
I still haven’t had a chance to watch DWTS yet (love my DVR) but on a local radio station this morning the hosts (1 man & 1 woman) were talking about Kate. The man didn’t know who she was until he watched DWTS, the woman just kept talking about how Kate should be at home with her children. She just kept on and on and on, when they got to the point of taking phone calls I called in and asked them why Kate is being slammed for being on the show and leaving her children in the care of their father and trusted nannies but it was ok for Pam Anderson to be on the show and leave her children. The man said I had a good point and the female host didn’t have a response.
I just do not understand why everyone thinks Kate should be with her children 24/7, it drives me crazy, she is just like any other Mother, I’m sure her children and just fine when she is away. Women all over the world go to work every single day and their children and ok.
As I sit here typing this my 3 older children are in school and my 4 yr old is out running errands with my husband, I know he is just fine with his Daddy, my husband is not the same kind of parent I am, he has his own parenting style and that is ok.

good to see you jacquelyn!
what i find the hardest thing to stomach there (among many) is that they seem to always take opinion as fact and then keep on saying it as fact over and over and over. if one of them *hears* something negative they believe it. and there is no stopping them from doing so. they will not listen to sane reasoning at all.
I got a little behind so I’m late to this post. But I watched DWTS and thought Kate did great for a rank amateur. She was stiff and obviously nervous and I missed her laughing. I love it when she laughs, it is so spontaneous and natural, just that great big laugh. I think she was too scared and I felt bad for her. And I thought Bruno was disgusting. She isn’t a performer and has no training to be in front of an audience, so I think she did wonderful for someone who has never set foot on a dance floor at all. She has a lot to learn and I hope she stays around so she has a chance to learn and improve. I think Tony had his hands full teaching her the steps, pointed toes come later. She was better than Shannon, who walked through her waltz and looked like an Old Navy Mannequin. Buzz was exactly as I expected a stiff piece of wood who doesn’t know his hips from a hole in the wall. A lot of men can’t for the life of them shake their booty. Don’t get me wrong, I admire the man, just not as a dancer.
“I know too that if I were going last, I’d have to fill myself up with Immodium because I’d be way too nervous waiting around for almost 2 hours to get my dance done.” I howled at that, and I second the sentiment. Theresa, you are too funny.
