It’s All in a Day or a Month – May is National Hamburger Month!

By Pam@IW

We love to observe certain days of the month in the USA. Last month we observed siblings’ day for example. There are some things, however, that are just so awesome that we like to celebrate them for a whole month! You may be wondering just what it is, now aren’t you? The month of May is known as National Hamburger Month… can’t you just hear them burgers sizzling on the grill? There are few foods more iconic of America than the hamburger!

Although the true commercial hamburger as we know it today was started in the US, the first version of it known as “steak tarter” originated in Hamburg, Germany in the 1600s. It became popular in New York City when restaurants began to carry their version of it to cater to visiting German sailors.

Now for those of you who do not know about the tradition behind National Hamburger Month which is observed for the month of May, it was started some time ago by a well-known chain of restaurants. No, it is not McDonald’s. It was started by White Castle.

White Castle was one of the first restaurants to offer its customers the fast food hamburger. And in order to observe this fact, and reward hamburger lovers all over the nation, White Castle sponsors many events for the whole month long. Classic burgers are offered at specific White Castle restaurants at a discounted price, traditional burgers, specialty burgers, and much more. White Castle is a family owned and operated business that is located in Columbus, Ohio. Many people stand in line in the wee morning hours for their traditional and tasty 25 cent Sliders.

We here at Imperfect Women have shared our awesome burger finds in a few of our posts in the past:

The Search For The Perfect Burger Ends In Wisconsin talks about a little hamburger stand in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin called Pete’s Hamburgers, that is only opened in warm weather months and serves one of the best burgers you will ever taste.

Hopdoddy’s Burger Bar: Epic Deliciousness! shares the deliciousness of a small hamburger joint in Austin, Texas and proclaims that you will forget any other burger you’ve ever had after trying Hopdoddy’s burgers!

For those of you who are familiar with the saying, “Where’s the Beef”?…better keep your eyes open for Hamburger month because many restaurants serve nothing but 100% USDA inspected beef and are offering great deals to their customers. Do a search on the internet and see what events are taking place for Hamburger Month in your locality.

Oh, our mouths are watering already… time to go to throw a burger on the grill. Guess we are “Cravers,” aren’t you?

Where do you head when you get a craving for a great burger?

I had read that this month was national hamburger month and thought it would be fun to do a burger night at home with all the fixin’s, but your question got me thinking… I have 2 favorite burger restaurants here in Phoenix/Scottsdale;, NOTHING beats the burgers at Zinburger and/or Rehab Burger Therapy!! I think perhaps we’ll need to do a burger night at home, and then (since it IS burger MONTH after all) make it a point to go to both of those restaurants for a burger as well! 🙂
