The holidays are just around the corner now and many people will be flying during the holiday season. With airline costs skyrocketing, it’s important to know how to shop for cheap holiday flights and how to maximize your savings this holiday season! The nice thing about purchasing holiday flights, or any flights for that matter, is that there are a few tricks to purchasing that can help you save a lot of money!
1. Flying on Tuesdays or Wednesdays are cheaper than any other day of the week.
The reason for this is because most people like to take extended weekend trips leaving on Thursday or Friday, and returning on Monday. Weekends are extremely busy, so it’s best to try and leave during the middle of the week if you can. Not only will it be cheaper, but you’ll find that the airports are more relaxed, less busy, and you’ll breeze through security a lot quicker!
2. Not only is flying on Tuesdays cheaper, but so is purchasing!
You want to try and purchase on Tuesday mornings if possible. It’s typical for airlines to release sales on Monday, and by Tuesday the other airlines will have followed suit and tried to stay within a competitive price range.
3. Check on different computers if you’re continuously looking.
Airline websites track who is searching for flights, and by allowing the cookies on your website to store, which is not at all a bad thing, they may see that you’re searching pretty frequently for flights. Sometimes, airlines will raise prices if they think you’re desperate, so it’s a good idea to check on another computer or have a friend look when you decide to buckle down and buy!
4. Look for cheap holiday flights in September.
Although holiday flights are typically released for sale prior to September, they usually dip a little in price around this time. It’s not a bad idea to start looking early, either. If you find a cheap holiday flight before September, some airlines allow refunds so it would be smart to book it then and possibly re-book later if you find a cheaper flight!
5. Look out for flash sales!
It’s a good idea to follow airlines that you like on social media. Every now and then, airlines will post flash sales that only last an hour or two and you can score some extremely cheap holiday flights by participating in those sales!
Ultimately, you just need to research the area you’re flying to and from. If there’s a slight price decrease in flying out of a smaller airport near you and it covers the cost of gas, it might be worth flying out of a smaller airport! Be aware of flight days and times, and maximize your savings on cheap holiday flights by following these tips!
