With the Fourth of July quickly approaching, you might be thinking about your firework displays. Fireworks are a great way to celebrate the holiday, and can be an entertaining activity for when night falls, but how can you enjoy a great show for less? Take a look below at some helpful tips on how to save money on fireworks and still put on a great show without draining your bank account. Here is what you need to know to get started.
1. Check out Dollar Tree.
Would you believe that Dollar Tree carries small fireworks? They sure do! Find your small items such as sparklers, poppers, snappers, and mini fountains for just $1. These items typically cost $4 and up at a local fireworks stand, so just a buck is a great bargain.
2. Skip the assortments.
The large, prepackaged assortments typically seem fancy, but the truth is they are stuffed with a lot of fillers such as sparklers and smoke balls. Instead, save your money for items that give you more of a show. Skip the pre packaged assortments and buy items you know you really want to see.
3. Find coupons.
Nationally known fireworks brands and franchises do run coupons for their products. You can typically find these on their websites and print them out. If shopping a local stand, see if they are running any coupons or specials in the local paper. It never hurts to call and ask if there is a place to find such savings either!
4. Ask for bulk discounts/general discounts.
Many fireworks stands will offer a bulk discount. Ask about any possibilities before you start shopping. Some may also offer a discount when using cash, or if you are a student or senior. It never hurts to ask. You can save 10% and up by finding out your own discount status.
5. Be patient.
While you might be excited to start shopping a week before the holiday, the day of the 4th is typically the best day for deals. At that point many of the fireworks stands will be ready to clear out their inventory and be offering special deals and sales.
While you might be anxious to save money on fireworks, here are a few things you should never do to save a buck:
- Don’t use fireworks from a previous year, as they may no longer be safe.
- Don’t buy fireworks from a fly by night dealer where the deals seem too good to be true, as you never know what you are getting.
- You also never want to buy fireworks that appear to be opened or tampered with, even if they are discounted.
When you keep these tips in mind, you can enjoy a 4th of July that is fun and even frugal. Give these tips for saving money on fireworks a try!
How do you plan on celebrating this 4th of July holiday?
Fireworks are actually illegal here in MA. There are professional displays, but they are not for sale here and there are huge fines for people who get caught setting them off in their yards from smuggling them in from NH or RI.
They are in NJ too. It doesn’t stop most people though.
I would be too afraid to do my own fireworks! We watch them from our house every year – we’re lucky to be able to see the displays from the San Diego County Fair.
Great tips. It’s my brother who takes care of our fireworks, so I will pass this on to him.
Oh how awesome. We did fireworks once and I haven’t done it since. I will let my husband know about this!
I had no idea that Dollar Tree had some fireworks. That’s a great tip.
Fireworks are illegal in MA and you can be severely fined for having them. That being said many people smuggle them in from near by NH>
Our town has firework stands and they do not really budge on their prices. At times if you buy a lot they will throw in some free sprinklers.
These are great ideas. I might want to do fireworks with the family this year!
Great tips of what “not” to do. It’s been a few years since we have bought any fireworks.
Nice tips. Fire works are so much fun. The kids love them.
What great ideas! I didn’t realize that the dollar store had small fireworks.
Fireworks are my favorite thing about the Fourth of July. They are actually illegal here in NYS but we manage to sneak in some sparklers and such and the police normally don’t say anything about them if they see them.
The way we save on fire works is to attend the city events at a local park hehe. But these are great tips I never thought to use coupons:) Great ideas thanks for sharing:)
My oldest son does not do very good with the firework noises, it makes him very anxious so we only do sparklers. We can see fireworks outside from our windows and that tends to make him less stressed out.
These are great ways to save money on fireworks. We go to our local fireworks show. It is always an amazing show.
We’re going to try to go all out for the Fourth this year, so this is extremely helpful. Thanks a lot.
It’s interesting how fireworks are illegal in some US states but not all of them. We have gone to fireworks shows but never handle them ourselves.
Some wonderful ideas indeed. I don’t like to spend money on fireworks and so as my kids. So I don’t have any worries about spending money on this. Your ideas will be helpful for everyone who loves fireworks fun. Will share with my friends.
I actually would never spend money on fireworks. It is literally watching your money go up in smoke. I had neighbors who would spend thousands of dollars every 4th and New Years. t is fun watching fireworks though
Buying things in bulk never fails – you always get to save more money with that.
I am totally going to give my husband the advice about going to the dollar tree for fire works. I hope they sell them here at the dollar trees in Michigan. My 8 year old loves the little fire poppers I’m not sure what they are called exactly but the ones you throw on the grown and they make a pop sound.
Thanks for the great tips for saving on fireworks. The Dollar store is great for Fireworks. That is where we get all of ours.
These are very good tips, I’m usually a last minute person with fireworks myself and agree! The deals on the day of are pretty nice, there is no need to rush it.
Great tips! We don’t do anything terribly big, we get some of the sparklers for the kids to hold and a few small ones to set off in the street far, far, very far away from the house and the kids, dogs, and anything flammable. LOL… When we lived in the Florida panhandle our neighbors though like to get the big ones from Alabama and bring those back into Florida for the big show… We’d usually head to the docks for the big show and leave them to those. Ha!
Don’t buy fireworks! My friend’s son lost his eye that way. Go see the big displays.
