How does my garden grow? Very well, thank you!

By Pam@IW

TweetPinEmailPrintYummlyLinkedInLikeShareShares19

A month ago, Snickers shared pictures with us of her beautiful garden somewhat in the early stages.  She recently sent in some more pictures to update us on her garden’s progress and it is quite obvious that Snickers has quite a knack for gardening. How does Snicker’s garden grow? We can safely say…..magnificently!

Where but in a garden do summer hours pass so quickly?

You can tell when someone loves to garden, snickers looks like a work of art. Love your plantings around the potting shed & cute birdhouses.

Such a beautiful place to be. You and your family must love hanging out there. Great place to visit or read a book. Absolutely love that cabbage. It is huge.

    Pam,

Of course when garden vegs grow, seems like they are all about ready at the same time. I did do some freezer cole slaw, have had cooked cabbage, cabbage rolls and cabbage on the grill. I shared with neighbors and friends also. I still have 6 heads left to cut. I picked my first green pepers today. Banana peppers are about ready also. I always laugh and say my market is in my backyard. 🙂

Yes, we all enjoy the potting shed, hope to have elec and water to it this year. It’s very quiet there, but if the door is open, someone always stops to chat. I can’t wait to have some music coming from within.

Beautiful garden! This is the second year my husband has done a backyard garden and I’m loving it. Its so nice to always have fresh veggies a few steps away!

How lovely!. Thanks so much for sharing. Your tending really shines through. All the hard work makes for a beautiful and tranquil looking garden. I have to reread the last thread. I am interested in the raised beds that were discussed. My yard is so flat and has poor drainage. With all the rain this year, I got nothing in the ground. Last year, a bunch of our seeds washed away. Raised beds are the only way I’m going to be able to grow anything decent.

I agree with BlogHawg, this garden *is* a work of art. As someone who is not very artistic, you inspire me because I feel like I can create a little beauty with a garden. I still have some learning to do, but I feel each year I get a little more creative and learn what works and what doesn’t. Seeing what others have accomplished is a great way to get (steal?!) ideas too.
    .
Lily, I agree about the raised beds. They can be very attractive too. I’m already thinking about how I can make space for more!

Thanks Anya for yours and everyone’s kind words concerning my gardens. While I have been upset with the trial this week, I have spent some peaceful time in my gardens this week. I have now picked green peppers and the green beans will be ready by the weekend. The raised beds looked great also, thinking of a stawberry bed next spring.

    Lynn,
It is just beautiful, your space is so neat and tidy. 🙂
On no, hope you didn’t get hail on your prized garden. I picked green beans and more green peppers tonight. I planted banana peppers for the first time this year, some are getting long and I have no idea when to pick them. Anyone know?? We are still enjoying cabbage, and tomotoes are setting on. We are dry here and they say temps in the high 90’s now, so I always fear hail storm with the humidity mixed in there.

As far as picking banana peppers if you jiggle them and they fall off. That is how I tell that they are done. Working on uploading what my garden looks like tonight.

    Lynn,

I am so sorry for you. All your hard work, but maybe some of it will come back. Leave it for awhile and see what happens. Maybe cutting some of the plants back would encourage some new growth. I wish I could share some of mine with everyone here. I do share with family, neighbors and the food bank. The weather has been so crazy. Never did I think this spring after being hit by a tornado, that my garden and flowers would ever look like this.

Yeah I will be going out there tomorrow cleaning up a bit. The garden looked so good until I went to the store this afternoon. We got a few things out of it and atleast the peas look good. I am disgusted this is the 3rd year we got hailed out. If we didnt soend so much time with the drip system this year I would say screw the garden. But I guess I am determined. But Im still crying.

    Lynn,

It’s like seeing acres of wheat hailed out in a few minutes. I would be crying too, especially if you love to garden like I know you do. Hang in there, things might pop out of it yet. I wish I had something I could say that would at least make you feel better, but know I am thinking of you. Thanks for the info on the peppers. 🙂

The latest cabbage I picked are called flat cabbage. The heads are huge with large leaves. These are great for cabbage rolls. They are bigger than my Grandma’s bread stoneware bowl. Now if the pie would just pass me some ribs, my meal would be complete. 🙂

Thanks for all your nice comments ladies.

Snickers your veggies look incredible. I am still wondering what mine would have been like with no hail. A lot of what ifs going on my way. But I am semi recovering.

I don’t water much in the garden. I plan on digging more potatoe’s this weekend and sharing. Thanks for you tip on the banana peppers!! I will post as things are ready!! Wish I lived by all of you to share!!

Lynn, your garden isn’t scary. It’s huge! Your peppers look great. I would love a garden that size, I’m so jealous. I can’t believe I didn’t get one thing in the ground this year. We are going to miss the green beans. I have to go to the farmer’s market for green tomatoes to fry. It’s just not the same at all.

Snickers, your garden looks like a sanctuary.

Wow, just beautiful Snickers. And I’m very impressed with what Lynn is growing too. I have to tell you guys, seeing these pictures makes me wish I wasn’t stuck at work on a PC, but rather in my own modest garden. Well, thank goodness for the long days of summer. I look forward to spending a little time tending my garden when I get home from work each night.

Please keep the photos coming, ladies!

    Lynn,

I have been elbow deep in putting corn up for the freezer and the winter months ahead. I will be posting for all to see. 🙂 I love the new roses that are on the market, and all the new varieties and colors of lilly’s. I will also be planting 5 new hybred iris this fall, so hopefully next spring I will have new colors around here. I use marigolds for filler and daiseys make a nice addition also. I have started some ground cover plants but the hot weather has been hard on them. Hopefully I can keep them alive.

Pam, I will be sending a article soon with pics, 🙂
