Happy Halloween!

There is a child in every one of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly-lit front porch.
~ Robert Brault

It’s almost time for the little ghosts & goblins to come out to play. Are you ready? I must confess- this year I’ve been slow in preparing for Halloween. Today I’m finally buying pumpkins to carve and decorations to put outside. Better than never! Our oldest has a Dorothy costume but has since decided it’s too “babyish” for her. I (mean mother that I am) am not buying another one; she will have to work with what she has in the costume trunk. Our two year old will (hopefully) be out and about as her favorite character – Minnie Mouse. Every year, I secretly wish for a big Halloween bash so I have an excuse to dress up too. None of you invited me to your parties, so I guess I will have to wait until next year.

Personally, I love Halloween movies. My favorite is Hocus Pocus. Last year I introduced our oldest to this Halloween flick, and now she loves it too. We watch the Halloweentown series every year on the Disney channel and its something we both really look forward to. Our little one now loves Spookley the Square Pumpkin. And of course The Great Pumpkin is an old standby. Each Halloween I make a big pot of chili and corn bread. My husband’s parents and sister come over, we have dinner, and then we take turns handing out candy and walking around the neighborhood with the kids. Of course sorting through the loot is the best part of the night!

What are some of your favorite Halloween traditions and memories? Any exciting plans this year? Share them with us!

    Great post Sam!

I really don’t like Halloween midweek. I know I will have tired kids Thursday and Friday. We aren’t going to be at home for trick or treating. We don’t get many kids on our street anyway and I am sure we will get even fewer with the midweek date. So we are going to the next town over to trick or treat with some good friends!

My daughter put together most of her Halloween from the costume bin we have, I just had to order some bright pink tights with spiderwebs on them from amazon!

Oh I watched an American Horror story marathon last Halloween! YIKES I had never heard of the show before. It scared me silly. I am not good with scary shows. In fact I am scared now just thinking about watching it! 😉 Doesn’t mean I won’t watch again though!

    Happy Halloween!!!

My little one also loves Hocus Pocus Sam, we have it out on Netflix right now.

Halloween rules as the best scary movie for this time of year. Michael Myers is truly the boogie man.

We also went to the bin for costumes this year. We had our town’s ToT parade last night and she wore last year’s cupcake.
There’s a festival that we go to every year that does Halloween like it’s Christmas. They put up so many orange lights, it looks really cool.

I wish there COULD be an IW Halloween party.
    .
Samantha, LOL, Dorothy is too babyish? Oh my. She’s is heading into “those years” I guess. Good for you for not giving and buying something else. Your little one will so precious as Minnie.
    .
Nothing too exciting here. We have been decorated at home for a while now with autumn/Halloween decorations. Nothing too scary though. I’m a chicken. I just found out I have to do some decorating at work though, so I will be heading to Michael’s this weekend to see what is left/on sale. Wish me luck. Also going to roast pumpkin seeds and teach a couple of young ladies in my house how to bake a pumpkin pie….Hmm, seems like a lot of eating going on. Better also rake some leaves and burn some calories!
    .
Oh and, of course, we are heading to Target to get a lot of candy — for the kids. It’s all for The Kids!
    .
Happy Halloween my fellow imperfect witches! 😉

I am decorated for the treaters that will come, and the candy bags are all made. Mid week does not seem to matter around here, as the real little ones start coming about 4:30. The bigger kids have a 5-7 time window, so they will have plenty of treats for desert that night. I love it! It’s cold here, rainy and a few snow flakes in the air, but I hope the kids have at least good weather for their fun night.

Sam, tell you daughter that mine was Dorothy LAST YEAR wearing size 10 ruby slippers. She took a real live yorkie around as Toto and she looked GREAT.

This year she is a kitty cat and her friend is a mouse.

My last costume was Minnie Mouse.

I have always LOVED Halloween. My Halloween decorations are toned down somewhat now to more of a fall decor but I still have a few surprises for the little ones.

We are getting our candy today. We are running hot here…suppose to be 93 today. Doesn’t feel like Halloween.

I love that IW is all dressed up for Halloween! Attending a party tonight. It’s going to be chilly by the fire but marshmallows and smores w/the kids will be fun.

I always wanted my niece to go as Dorothy when she was little; I had a cockapoo that looked…sort of Toto-ish and I thought it would be awesome if she ToTed with the dog. Alas, she was only interested in being a Disney princess in those years.

I am with Pam—I tend to mix my Halloween decor with general fall decor that can be kept up through Thanksgiving – then it’s time to start decorating for Christmas!

What do you guys thing about our question in the poll for today. What age do you think a child is too old to go trick or treating?

  10. Pattypie says

    October 28, 2012 at 8:28 am

I would say 36. I think 36 should be the cut off age for a child to go trick or treating.

But I am just sayin’ 🙂

If you are one of my kids, I INSIST you go Trick-or-Treating. My kids pay their rent at Halloween in the form of Snickers Bars.

I asked this question on our Facebook page today – How many Trick or Treaters do you you typically get at your door?

Some of the people get between 500 and 1000 trick or treaters. Wow!

    Pam,

I thought I had a lot with usually over 100. Wow, is right!

We live on a street where the median age has to be 70! However, people bus in children because our bell rings for hours on Halloween. I love sitting on the porch watching all the children in their outfits. There are some crazy getups these days.

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday but since ive had kids I love it even more I love to sit and watch all the best scary movies with my older kids and I love dressing them up. we live in an area that most of the area is not so good so we have to go to another area of town to trick and treat

    It’s finally here!

Elizabeth, your Halloween sounds fun. I have two boys that are grown and we did that for years. Our thing was to try to catch one of us off-guard somehow (usually during a kitchen run) and then scare the daylights out of them. I still feel like I need the boys around if I want to watch anything scary.

We have already done so much. Tonight will be the third ToT. It’s turned off cold. So, think it will be a short one and then on to family friendly Halloween shows.

Hope all the little ones get lots of candy and have tons of fun.
