Halloween Witch Hat Finger Play Gloves

By Pam@IW

Finger plays are short poems or nursery rhymes for the very young (and many of us that are just plain young at heart) that are either spoken or sung and involves the use of the hands and fingers to “act” out the story. Halloween is one of the best times of the year to have fun with finger plays because there are so many cute rhymes and poems about the holiday.

If you are looking for a fun and easy Halloween craft to do with your little one this season, look no further than the drawer you store your gloves in and a quick trip to your local craft store. We like the finger play rhyme, Five Little Witches, so we used felt witch hats to make our Halloween Witch Hat Finger Play Glove.

Her are the supplies needed:

  • 1 stretch glove (Target or the Dollar Store carries these)
  • Felt witch hats (Sold at Michael’s Craft store -they are peel and stick and sell bags with a nice variety including pumpkins and owls)
  • Googly Eyes ( available at craft stores, Dollar Tree or Amazon)
  • Hot glue, glue gun

Halloween craft

Lay the glove out flat on the table for easy application. Add a dab of glue to one fingertip at a time. Add one of the felt hats while the glue is still hot. Press and hold in place. It is best to use glue even if you find the peel and stick felt hats. They will stay on better. Continue until all five fingers have a hat in place.

Now it is time to make these witch hats come to life and add the googly eyes. Add a dab of glue to each googly eye and press them onto the felt hats. If you don’t have google eyes or don’t feel they are safe for your younger ones, just skip that step or draw your eyes on with a marking pen. When dry, slip onto your hand and use for the finger play below.

Here are the words for Five Little Witches

Five Little Witches
Five little witches standing by the door. (hold up five fingers)
One flew out and then there were four. (Flying motion with hand)
Four little witches standing by a tree. (four fingers)
One went to pick a pumpkin and then there were three. (picking motion with three fingers)
Three little witches stirring their brew.(stir)
One fell in and then there were two. (two fingers)
Two little witches went for a run. (run with fingers)
One got lost and then there was one. (one finger)
One little witch, yes, only one. (one finger)
She cast a spell and now there are none.(make motions as if to cast spell and then put hands in lap).

We found a great site with lots of Halloween finger play rhymes called KidNKaboodle.net. Given the fact that the felt stickers are available in pumpkins, owls, ghosts, candy corn, bats and so much more…your possibilities are endless.
