The big news in the entertainment world this past week was the breakup of Jennifer Lopez’s third marriage. Lopez and her emaciated, unhealthy-looking singer husband, Marc Anthony, announced that they were splitting up this past Friday. They are the parents of 3-year-old twins, Emme and Max. I’m no fan of Lopez, but I always thought she could do better than her creepy husband, who in addition to being kind of unattractive (IMO, obviously), has been rumored to be controlling and even, by some accounts, abusive. Hey, maybe this will open the door to a J. Lo-Steven Tyler romance on American Idol!
The Women’s World Cup finale was held Sunday in Germany, with Japan beating the US women by a score of 3-2. I’m not that interested in soccer, never mind women’s soccer, but I am interested in fair-weather fandom. Even so, I couldn’t be too disappointed in Japan’s win – if ever a country needed and deserved something to lift their national spirits, it’s Japan. It sounds like it was an exciting and well-played game on both sides, anyway. Congratulations to Japan!
In movie news, the final Harry Potter movie (sniff), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II, made a gazillion billion dollars this weekend. I haven’t seen it yet, but I hear Voldemort wins. Bummer.
Congratulations to new mom, Ivanka Trump, 29. She and her husband, Jared, welcomed baby girl Arabella Rose on Sunday morning. I like this name – it’s different, but not as odd as some recent celebrity baby names. What do you think?
Would you ask Justin Timberlake or Mina Kunis out on a date? A little intimidating, no? How about Betty White?! Well, three Marines did just that via YouTube. They extended invitations to Timberlake, Kunis and White to attend upcoming Marine Corps Balls. Timberlake and Kunis accepted the invitations, but sadly White was already booked that night and had to decline. All we can say is Oorah!
Charlie Sheen will reportedly be returning to the small screen in an adaption of the Jack Nicholson film Anger Management. The project has yet to find a network, however. Charlie Sheen is no Jack Nicholson, and personally I have zero interest in anything involving “the drug Charlie Sheen” as he so modestly refers to himself. What about you – do you want more Sheen?
Not a Jennifer fan, but she is stunning and has a certain fortitude. I’m thinking she is somebody not really “made” to married. What is this – #3? Not including Affleck, P-Diddy and all the other romances she manages to get in the public eye. With 3-year-olds and a resurgent career, maybe she should just concentrate on non-romantic pursuits for a while? Yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it!
.
Congrats Japan!…Congrats Ivanka. I love the name Arabella!…The Marine Corps story is a great feel-good…Since I don’t want to end on Charlie Sheen (UGH), I’ll instead ask if anyone saw Harry Potter this weekend and if you thought it was everything you wanted it to be?
Too many people refuse to work on their marriage. Marriage requires compromise and you have work to stay married. I did not think that marriage would last as long as it did.
As much as I hated to see USA lose, I am glad it was to Japan. Great nail biting game. My dogs went crazy every time one of us screamed.
I hope the actress keeps her word and goes to the ball. I have been to Air Force ceremonies, with my daughter who was an officer, and they are something else.
I personally have never watched a Harry Potter movie. And Charlie Sheen, yuck!
I will have to say I was somewhat surprised when I heard about Jennifer and Marc. I thought they were recently doing things together on TV. Something else must have happened and like all of the other celebrity marriages, it will all come out down the road. I am sure TMZ is all over it.
I really did like Charlie Sheen on Two and a half Men. I am done watching him , though.
.
I also have never seen a Harry Potter movie.
.
Congrats to Japan! Saw the USA team on Good Morning today and they were all so cute. I am sure they are pretty disappointed since they came so close.
As a proud Mother of a Marine, those ceremonies are breath taking. Hope they all follow through.
Movie, nope, no interest.
Congradulations to Japan. Watched it here and it was close. USA did us proud.
Ivanka and her husband will be great parents. Her name means “rose”. Thats what I read. Nice. I love the name Bella for short.
Jennifer and Marc not surprised. I find him creepy also. I was just in the supermarket and one of the tabloids said they were back together. So who knows. Ha ha Congrats to Ivanka and and Japan. I saw the Harry Potter movie and it was great. I shed a tear, but I tend to cry at the movies. As my daughter said “It ended just right!” She grew up with the movies.
That’s too bad about Lopez. Is this her third? I don’t follow her except for what you can’t avoid, not a fan but she was cute on Will & Grace.

I was surprised about Amy Winehouse being found dead. Only 27, such a shame.
