Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre announced Friday that Ashton Kutcher will replace Charlie Sheen. Hugh Grant was rumored to have been in serious contention for the part on the hit CBS show.
It was reported tonight that Kutcher will be paid 1 million dollars per episode. Sheen made just under 2 million an episode.
Charlie Sheen tweeted earlier tonight:
@charliesheen
#Winning Congrats to the cast and crew…CBS & WB..! My best to @aplusk !! The show must go on… You got the right guy!
History proves that shows can survive the loss of a major star with Sheen himself replacing Michael J Fox on the hit show Spin City back in 2000. NYPD did not suffer when David Caruso left nor did Criminal Minds miss a beat with the departure of Jason Gideon.
I do believe that America loves the entire cast of Two and a Half Men and the writing for the most part is top notch. Kutcher is a somewhat popular actor and both women and men like him for his good looks and non threatening personality. He could quite possibly fit right in on this show and this could work.
What are your thoughts?
It seems like a good replacement, though I am not a fan of the show. Honestly, I think that if I would watch, Ashton Kutcher would be my favorite on the show. I never cared for any of the others.
I “like” the show. I LOVE Ashton Kutcher, but I just don’t see him replacing Charlie.
I won’t watch because I wasn’t a watcher when Charlie was on. Not a big Ashton fan. I think he’s smart in the business but doesn’t rank as an actor I enjoy.
No, I really don’t like Chuck Lorre (sp?). Charlie Sheen is a nut, but Chuck I believe is dishonest and also let all kinds of things pass until Charlie stepped on his tender little feelings. He couldn’t handle that. JMO
I might actually watch now- I love Ashton!
Interesting choice. I wasn’t a regular viewer of the program and that probably won’t change, but I like this choice. I hope the show continues for a few more seasons, if only to show Charlie he IS replaceable and so that the supporting actors and crew (who put up with a lot of uncertainty) can enjoy a steady paycheck without the drama.
Jane-I agree! Chuck let a lot of things slide, hookers, drugs, domestic violence but drew the line too late in my opinion. Charlie obviously needs some help and people feuling his fire is gross. Wish Ashton luck, I hope for everyone else employed by that show, that it is a huge success.
I can’t see watching the show either way; I never did before. But, though Ashton Kutcher wouldn’t have been one of my first choices (I like him okay, but there were other names floated that intrigued me more), I am just glad that Sheen isn’t coming back. I would’ve been so disgusted if he had.
