When we were asked by Cottonelle to answer the question “what would you like 25% more of this holiday season?”, so many answers came to mind that I felt overwhelmed. Time. Money. Sleep. Eggnog. Fruitcake (shut up, fruitcake is delicious). Motivation. Kittens. (Hey, I love kittens!) Wait, did I already mention time?

The list is endless. But then I thought about what the holiday season really means to me, and the only answer that mattered, suddenly, was this: joy. I’d like 25% more joy this season. It all comes so easily as a child – the anticipation of Santa’s arrival, the appreciation of the beautiful lights and ornaments, the unique smells of Christmas: the snappy peppermint of candy canes and the familiar scent of fresh pine. As an adult I miss that. I miss being able to take simple joy in the little things. Too often it’s rush, rush – get the tree up, buy the presents, wrap the presents, bake the cookies. Send out cards (ack, so-and-so from middle school sent me a card! Now I have to send her a card!). Everything that should be JOYOUS comes to feel like another obligation. I want to appreciate these things again. I want to take joy in them again. I want to be happy to get a card from an old friend instead of having a reflexive sense of the obligation it’ll create. I want to enjoy wrapping presents – picking just the right wrapping and ribbon for a present that I just know a family member will love, all while watching “Elf”, as is my holiday tradition. It’s the little things. There will never be enough time (or kittens!) but that doesn’t matter; it’s about appreciating what I do have and taking joy in it, instead of seeing it in a negative light.

Sometimes joy can be found in the simplest of things – even something as small as reaching for the toilet paper blearily on a cold December morning and finding that there’s still some on the roll, because I use Cottonelle and Cottonelle Clean Care has 25 percent more sheets per roll. As I said, it’s the little things.

What about you? What do you want 25% more of this season? What is bringing you joy right now? Let us know in the comments below!

Great post Jennie! You are my favorite writer! 😉

I’ll take 25 percent more fruitcake, 25 percent less cats, and 25 percent more time! 🙂

I don’t want more time. I just want less to do to fill it. So I’d say, I want 25% more NOTHING TO DO.

I agree with the comments before me. I can ALWAYS use more time! I could also use more exercise so I can enjoy more holiday goodies! I do agree with you that its the little things that make the holiday- we love to watch elf too!

Like others, I have a long list, but I’ll narrow it down to 25% more gratitude. I wanted to say patience too, but I think when I’m grateful for all I have, I’m naturally more patient… Actually, I can’t narrow it down to just one – I also want 25% more good hair days.

Also, this is a silly thing to share, but Cottonelle is my favorite brand of tp! Just wanted to let the world know that.

    25% more sleep…..or any sleep!

  12. Savannah miller says

    December 10, 2013 at 6:12 am

Sleep I would like 25% more sleep lol!! I thought this morning I would get to lay back down for a bit, I had to get my little guy on the bus at 6:50 at 7:38 I got a call saying the kids are being sent home at 9 because of the snow coming…. Uck so no sleep for me I instead rushed around to get done before my kiddo got home

  13. Lily@IW says

    December 10, 2013 at 6:20 am

25% more $ is what came to my mind. I’m a basic kind of person. Eggnog would be fab too. Our traditional and delicious eggnog was killed off when another company purchased our favorite local dairy. It just doesn’t seem the same anymore w/o it, but it is easier on my waist.
So, I’ll be in the cheer of the spirit and wish for 25% more peace on earth and goodwill towards man.

  14. Jen says

    December 10, 2013 at 6:49 am

I’d like to have to work 25% less so I could read 25% more… 🙂

The holiday season is bringing me joy but I could definitely use 25% more time! Time just flies during this season!

  16. Karen @TheMissingNiche.com says

    December 10, 2013 at 8:53 am

I’d like 25% more patience. That in turn would bring me time and joy. I would be spending my day more productively rather than getting in a tizzy about silly stuff and wasting time complaining about it!

  17. JennieIW says

    December 10, 2013 at 11:10 am

Great answers! (Except for Pattypie knocking cats. I know where you live, Patty.)

I agree on the “patience” answers. Though I could also say, “25% less #$%^ irritating people!” But I guess that would not really be in the spirit of the season, would it? 🙂

  18. Shanna says

    December 10, 2013 at 6:08 pm

Fruitcake?! No way! (JK, it’s not too bad.) Just like Karen, I’d like 25 percent patience, especially when it comes to some of the rude shoppers in the stores this time of the year!

  19. Lexie Lane says

    December 10, 2013 at 6:51 pm

I could definitely use 25% more sleep! or 25% less fat on my belly! lol! What a great giveaway!

  20. Jessica Hehir says

    December 10, 2013 at 7:22 pm

I love your response of JOY. However, I do think that joy comes from a lot of the things that you mentioned before that! I know I feel very joyful when I get enough sleep and eggnog- oh yeah, and family time. 😉 Happy holidays!

  32. Amber Edwards says

    December 13, 2013 at 7:58 am

The bigger the roll, the less often I have to change the roll, which equals one happy Mama! I love the bigger rolls!
