I waited a long time for this book… and it was so worth the wait! If you haven’t read Slammed or Point of Retreat (WHY HAVEN’T YOU READ THOSE BOOKS YET??!) this is going to spoil those books for you, so you may want to quit reading this review now!
Still reading? This Girl was absolutely fantastic. I cried through dang near the entire book. It’s really hard to read through weepy eyes but I managed to do it. I fancied Will in Slammed and POR but now I am absolutely, 100%, unequivocally IN LOVE with Will Cooper. He is dreamy. He is thoughtful. He loves Lake so much it, makes my heart ache. The guy tortured himself to do the right thing by Lake. In this day and age, with jackass guys just taking what they want and not giving a crap about the people they hurt, he is what men should strive to be like.
This Girl starts off where Point of Retreat ended. Will and Lake are married and still on their honeymoon. We finally get to feel how Will was feeling, since this book is written from his point of view. Will and Lake reminisce about all the heartaches, traumas and uphill battles they had to go through to get to their current happy place. The way Colleen Hoover wrote This Girl was PERFECT for telling Will’s side of the story. We finally get to live in Wills brain when he first meets Lake, when he finds out he’s her teacher, and what goes through his conflicted heart as he’s forced to push her away – repeatedly.
What we thought we glimpsed in Slammed and POR is NOTHING in comparison to how Will was really feeling. I knew the man was having a hard time with his feelings for Lake, but what I didn’t fully realize, until This Girl, was how damned tortured he was by his feelings. How fully and completely he loved Lake. How Lake consumed his thoughts and made him crazy. I could feel his anguish and heartache in my bones. Ugh, it kills me how much these two went though, separate and together, to get to their happy place. If there were ever two people who deserved some peace and happiness, it is Will and Lake. It makes my heart happy to see them a few years into their future.
You know these two are going to be okay and their love is solid and real and unending. This book was a perfect ending to two outstand novels. It gives us some answers, insight and a fantastic happily ever after ending. I’m so sad to see these characters story end, but I am so glad that Colleen Hoover let us into their lives.
If you haven’t read Slammed or Point of Retreat yet, get your butt in gear and treat yourself to the heartbreakingly wonderful world of Will and Layken! Once you’ve done that, buy yourself a box of Kleenex and get ready to feel all the feels with This Girl. I promise, you won’t be sorry. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll become a lifetime fan of Colleen Hoover!
