Book Review: Sex and the Single Vamp by Robin Covington

Sex and the Single Vamp, paranormalBy Jen

For the record, I’m not usually a paranormal book fan.  Did I read and like Twilight?  Yes.  But since then I really haven’t touched anything that had to do with vampires.  Until now…  Why did I choose to read this?  Well… the book synopsis sucked me in and I said what the heck.   Since I haven’t, until now, reviewed anything in this genre I figured I’d mix things up a bit.   What I wasn’t expecting was to really like this book!   I wouldn’t classify this book as just Paranormal ~ it’s really a Contemporary Paranormal Romance and Robin has sold me on giving this genre a chance!

Sex and the Single Vamp was exciting.  The sizzle between the main characters, Cici and Deacon, was red hot.  They have more than just physical attraction; they have 200+ years of history between them which made their emotional connection very believable.   The story jumps right into these two wanting to get it on, which normally makes me say “Yeah, right… like that’s realistic” but in this case, it totally worked because we know they have history.

I love an alpha-male that isn’t a douche and Deacon totally made me swoon.   He’s stubborn and sexy and very, very protective, especially of Cici.  When Cici’s life is threatened and she goes to Deacon for help, he goes super alpha and stops at nothing to protect her.  But he doesn’t just want to protect her… he also wants in her pants!  Cici can’t resist Deacon and, for the record, I wouldn’t have been able to either!   When they finally end up getting it on, after 200 years of dancing around their attraction, holy moly do the fireworks explode!  I’m telling you… hot!

One of the things I loved about this story was the fact that it spanned over 200 years.  It was interesting to hear about historical events that shaped their relationship into what it is today.   I enjoyed this book from start to finish and will definitely be reading more of Robins work!   Sex and the Single Vamp will release on March 24, 2014 and is available for preorder now!

My rating: 4.5 stars

Interesting with the historical aspect to it adding to the story. I haven’t read a hot book in years, so maybe I’m due!

Oh I will check this book out. I am a fan of the older vampire movies, when they were more about the passion. Sounds like this book is right up my alley. Thank you for sharing.

I am almost a little embarrassed to say this, but my husband is going to love this book. He LOVED Twilight (yes, really) and loves to read anything with vampires.

I haven’t read a vampire book since the Twilight series either. Perhaps it’s time. This one looks super steamy! Who doesn’t like that every now and then?

I think the base of this relationship (always spicy, protective love) is why most people liked Twilight, and in turn 50 shades. People crave to be wanted!!

I think the history spanning over 200 years would be really interesting too! That’s a great way to pick up on things you might not know or have missed hearing/learning about.

This may be shocking, but I’ve never read a vampire book. {I know, crazy isn’t it.} My daughters have read the Twilight books but I’ve never checked them out. Maybe I need to try some vampire fiction!

I’ve never been a big paranormal reader – I’m not into vampires or zombies. However, I like stories of romance and combine history….so this might be a read for me.
