Book Review – Rules of Entanglement by Gina L. Maxwell

Rules of Entaglement by Gina L. MaxwellFighting for Love series, Book 2

By Jen

Steamy. Sarcastic. Funny. Sexy. All words that describe Rules of Entanglement perfectly. Gina Maxwell is a master at creating characters you become invested in, want to know more about, and can’t get enough of. She delivered in the hot and naughty department with Jackson Maris. It was like Gina infiltrated her reader’s minds and created Jackson to be the hottest “book boyfriend” in the history of “book boyfriends.”

Rules of Entanglement (ROE) is book two in the Fighting for Love series. Fortunately for you, you don’t have to have read book one, Seducing Cinderella, in order to read ROE. However, I highly recommend it because it was fantastic!

We were first introduced to Jackson and Vanessa in Seducing Cinderella. Jackson, or Jax as his friends call him, is an MMA fighter living and training in Hawaii. He’s laid back, likes to surf and fight, and knows how to dominate in the bedroom. In a nutshell, Jax is sex on a surfboard. He’s not used to women dismissing him and pretty much loses his mind when he meets Vanessa and she does just that. If I wasn’t married, I would scoop Jax up, stick him in my pocket, and never, ever let him out of my sight.

Vanessa is best friends with Jax’s sister, Lucie. She travels to Hawaii to help plan Lucie’s dream wedding. She has a witty sarcasm that made me laugh out loud and high-five her. Vanessa is a pit-bull lawyer and thrives on being in control at all times. Her need for control prompted her to create and follow the “Vanessa Macgregor’s Lucky 7 Rules To Live By”. Yep, she’s a bit of a control freak!

Within minutes of meeting Jax, Vanessa goes from instant attraction – “Oh, he was definitely doable. Did Hawaiians have the saying “Save a surfboard, ride a surfer”?” – to wanting to kick him to the curb – “Any warm and fuzzies her lady parts had begun harboring for the MMA stud in front of her went poof.”  She almost immediately decides that he is no good for her because he’s already broken one of her rules.  Her feisty attitude immediately intrigues Jax.  She tries to fend him off but their attraction is too hot to deny. Vanessa decides let loose a bit and invokes Rule #5, which Jax happily agrees to. DING, DING, DING… here comes the HOT and NAUGHTY! What stood out to me was Jax’s dominant side in the bedroom, but he wasn’t a complete jerk about it. He took control in a sexy, manly, loving way, and it made my heart go boom. There’s a scene with body shots that will make your toes curl and steam come out of your ears.

But what happens when Vanessa finds out that Jax didn’t just break a rule but obliterated it? You’re going to have to read the dang book to find out! Because I’m nice, I will tell you that you might need a tissue or two at the end. Happy reading, ladies!!
