If you like your romance novels to have some action, both in the bedroom and outside of it, then you’re going to want to give this one a 1-click! I loved that Guardian for Hire had an action-packed storyline along with some sizzling romance under the covers. Add in a sarcastic Scottish hero, and holy moly, we have a winner!
Gavin McClintock is sent by friends to guard Sarabeth Lucking from impending danger. Gavin is kind of bossy , totally sarcastic and a lot hot (I pictured Gerard Butler *swoon*). He is part owner of a security firm and takes his job seriously. Since it’s a personal favor in watching over Sarabeth, Gavin doesn’t drop her off with just anyone… nope, he keeps her with him, takes her to his home, and even on a security job. Since he and Sarabeth are under such tight quarters, they really get to know each other.
At first glance, Sarabeth and Gavin seem like total opposites; Sarabeth comes from a wealthy family and Gavin grew up on the streets of Edinburgh. As they grow to know each other, they realize they have more in common with each other than they thought. I liked how Sarabeth and Gavin didn’t just jump right into the sack with each other. The attraction is immediate but like normal people, they get to know each other before becoming intimate. There is a real basis for the physical and emotional connection they feel, their relationship felt natural and unrushed. I believed that they really liked each other.
Sarabeth is a great female character – she wasn’t weak and desperate for a man to love her. She is smart (a psychologist), gutsy (scales fences) and willing to take a chance. She’s also pretty dang funny! Her moments of panic during a restaurant scene made me laugh out loud! But she also made me sad – the way she let her grandparents treat her was awful. I wanted to sock Grandma in the head for being such mean old hag.
As Gavin and Sarabeth get their groove on, they are also investigating who wants Sarabeth dead. At first, the search is cold which gives them plenty of time to heat things up in the bedroom. But once they get a break in the case, all the focus is on Gavin doing everything in his power to save his girl, Sarabeth. This was a fast-paced, witty, sexy ride! It was my first Christine Bell novel, and it won’t be my last!
My rating: 4 stars!
