Fighting For Irish by Gina L. Maxwell

By Jen

Jen received a free copy of Fighting For Irish by Gina L. Maxwell from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed are her own and were not influenced by the method in which she received the book.

*Ahem* *Stands on my soapbox and waves my arms in a crazy Muppet flailing style*

Can I have everyone’s attention, please? Come a little closer… just a bit closer… Are you all paying attention? Okay, here we go!

GO BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

Whew, okay I feel so much better now! Seriously, I love Gina Maxwell’s writing. She’s on the tippy-top of my “must read” author list. She could write a Chinese food takeout menu and I would still pay for it and read it from cover to cover. So when little ol’ me got the chance to read Fighting For Irish before it was published I not only said ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY, I also did a crazy little jig right in the middle of my place of work. (Don’t worry; they are accustomed to my crazy antics) I went home immediately, downloaded it onto my kindle and ignored my husband for the rest of the night (sorry honey!). Choosing to spend my night with the utterly swoon-worthy Aiden “Irish” O’Brien and the super sweet Kat MacGregor made for the Best Friday night, EVER!

Gina’s characters always feel so genuine to me. On the outside, Kat is a super tough, freckled redhead that doesn’t take crap from anyone. What else would you expect from a redhead, right? But Kat goes deeper than that. Deep down, Kat is always looking over her shoulder, waiting for the other shoe to drop, constantly planning her next move. Childhood abuse affects her every decision, and her walls are solidly built. That said, Kat isn’t likable, she’s LOVEABLE. She’s selfless, not wanting to drag anyone into her screwed up situations, which leave her dealing with some pretty scary people on her own. I want to hug her and keep her safe in my pocket. Kat finds herself hiding out, avoiding someone else’s debt by working in a gross dive bar in the middle of nowhere. Then Irish shows up and cue the *swoon*. Thank goodness she has Irish looking out for her, because Kat has no idea what’s coming…

I’ve been itching to tell you all about the uber-amazing, always sexy, super intuitive Irish! This former MMA fighter bad boy is SO much more than what meets the eye. Behind his sexy as sin exterior, he’s scary intuitive when it comes to dealing with Kat and her trust issues. It’s like he has this sixth sense on just what Kat needs to pull her out of her head so she can trust him and let down those walls. It was amazing to watch him be just what Kat needed, to relieve her of those walls slowly, brick by brick. Irish has got to be the most patient man on the face of the earth, never pushing, but always encouraging in such a sweet and supportive way. Kat and Irish’s first kiss is so stinking beautiful and sweet, it brought tears to my eyes and is one of my most favorite first kisses to date.

Irish is just as scarred as Kat, just in different ways. His scars are his guilt, which have prevented him from ever getting close to anyone. But with Kat everything is different. Irish doesn’t let that guilt stop him from trying to be there for Kat. He has an insatiable need to heal and protect her which leaves him vulnerable. They both have issues (who doesn’t) but neither of them were such drama queens or so caught up in themselves that they couldn’t see the connection they had with each other. They both had walls built and let the other in willingly. It was like watching two damaged people find each other, heal together, and become something beautiful and whole. Kat can’t outrun her past, and when the past comes to collect, Irish will do anything to protect Kat, including what he said he would never do again… Fight.

Fighting For Irish has everything I love in a book; hot sex scenes, sweet emotional connections, angst, and a hot panty dropping Alpha male. If you haven’t given Gina’s writing a chance, you’re missing out. Fighting For Irish is the third book in the Fighting for Love series and the first two books were just as amazing! Check out my review of the second book, Rules of Entanglement.

My rating: 5 super freaking fabulous stars!

Fighting for Irish releases on January 13, 2014 and is available for Pre-order now! (Do it, you know you want to!)

So you kinda like this book I guess, huh? LOL. It sounds like the kind of book that I like to read while I’m sitting on the beach, so I will have to get a copy and stash it away in my beach bag.

I am not sure on this one – I prefer the more mild romance novels. I think it might just be a bit over what I would like. I will still look at it when I go to the bookstore next time and see.
