Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things!
We thought it would be fun to go a little Oprah here at Imperfect Women and share our Favorite Things with each other. When we started discussing this post, we found out that there were so many things we all loved that we decided to do categories. This post will be all about cleaning products.
Below is just a few of our favorite cleaning products but we are really looking forward to reading about yours and maybe finding that product that we having been searching for. Oh…….and since we don’t have Oprah’s budget, there won’t be any mass giveaways this time around. But maybe some day we can all board that Qantas A380 specially designated for the Imperfect Women community and have John Travolta fly us to Australia!
Finding this dishwand made doing dishes a whole lot easier even if you are just getting them ready to go into the dishwasher. I love the design of this product. The narrow end of the sponge allows you to get into corners, while the broader side allows you to scrub larger surface areas with ease. The long handle has ample storage space for the dish soap and as an added bonus allows you to get a good grip for scrubbing those extra tough spots of burnt on food. The sponges last a long time but are replaceable and affordable. It is a must for every kitchen!
Ann– Goo Gone.
I was introduced to this cleaner by my husband who keeps it handy in his garage for when he works on the cars. It is a fabulous cleaner for removing gooey, sticky, greasy residue. I use it primarily to defeat the sticky residue left on products after removing a particularly tough label. The product can also be used to remove chewing gum, grease, tar, stickers, oil, make-up, shoe polish and crayon.
I once taught in a room with a very old, heavy slate black board that had about 85 years of tape marks and sticker residue on it. That whole wall was completely “gum-free” after I used Goo Gone, and it conditioned the slate, too! I know there aren’t a lot of those slate black boards in your lives, but I promise you’ll find uses for this product.
Jennie– White Vinegar
One of my favorite cleaning products is not high-tech in the least: white vinegar. White vinegar is cheap, effective and does not have the harsh ingredients found in many chemical-based cleaners. Yet it’s effective at killing bacteria and it’s great for deodorizing. I ran across this page that has a plethora of useful tips for cleaning with vinegar.
Lily– Hoover SteamVac
I find this as necessary as my vacuum cleaner. With the cat periodically hacking up a hairball or a piece of plastic she’s managed to find, the dogs and kid tracking in dirt, the spills and the worry that my carpet will smell like wet dog and I won’t know it, I use mine frequently. I am on my second one. My first lasted six years and my current one is two years old. The motor and scrubbers are great for pulling up the stains. The collection tank is easily kept clean with a rinse out. A very handy tool to have around to keep the carpets fresh looking.
Samantha– Magic Erasers
I know this is a product that most people are already familiar with but I’ve found so many wonderful uses for them. I like to cut mine in half because they last much longer that way. I’ve found that they are the best way to clean my kitchen floor! I can clean the floor more quickly down on my knees with a magic eraser than I can with my mop. I bring a bowl of water to keep the eraser moist, sit down and work my way over the floor. You can easily get into every nook and cranny and you see things you wouldn’t have noticed standing, the best part is it doesn’t break my back the way my mop tends to and it dries much faster. There is no floor grime it won’t pick up!
I always marvel at just how dirty my floors get. I clean them at least once a week. Run the vacuum and mop. Despite this routine, a quick inspection inevitably reveals a certain amount of grime and lots of hair. The hair is probably enviable. My household contains cats and teenage girls. It is to be expected (due to gravity) that a certain amount of their fur (cats) and hair (girls) is going to wind up on the floor. That is why I love the Evercare Mega Cleaning Roller.
What do I love about this product? Well, it much easier to haul out then the vacuum, so it is great for quick clean-ups. Also, I have yet to find a vacuum that truly gets up every last particle of hair from a floor. In fact, previously, I have been known to get down on my hands and knees with one of the standard size lint rollers to try and finish the job the vacuum didn’t do. No more. The roller can also be used on carpets. Again, be prepared to discover that your vacuum isn’t doing the job you think it is. The roller sheets are reasonably priced, but I am careful about how many sheets I use at a time because they will go quickly once you get on a roll! Try it!
