7 Budget Friendly Ways to Enjoy Mother’s Day

Are you ready to enjoy a Mother’s Day that is more about experiences than gifts? If so, take a peek at these 7 budget friendly ways to enjoy Mother’s Day with your family! There are all sorts of experiences you can enjoy together that are fun, budget friendly, and sure to help Mom enjoy her special day. Here is how you can get started.

Mother's Day entertainment

1. Enjoy a matinee.

Take Mom to see a movie of her choice during the matinee time slot. You will be about half the cost of an evening ticket, which leaves you a little cash to grab a light lunch or coffee afterwards. And of course, let Mom choose the flick!

2. Take her for tea.

Find a local restaurant or bed and breakfast that offers afternoon tea and a light lunch. Mom will love the relaxing atmosphere and time to catch up with you over tea. If you want, you can even get all dressed up and fancy! How fun would wearing fancy hats and gloves be?

3. Plant something together.

Grab some seedlings (flowers, herbs, etc.) and some colorful pots. Spend an afternoon planting together. When you are done Mom will have enjoyed some quality time with you as well as have a potted plant to take home.

4. Bake together.

Grab some baking supplies and bake up a storm together. Make cookies, muffins, brownies, or whatever Mom’s specialty is. It is a great way to share family recipes while bonding together in the kitchen. When done, enjoy your treats with coffee.

5. Visit a local park.

Spend the afternoon enjoying a local park or zoo together. Take in the air, the sights, and just enjoy each other and the ambiance. If you wish, you can even pack your own lunch to enjoy when you are done.

6. Head to a local bookstore.

Does Mom love to read? Then head to a local book store. Enjoy an author reading, book signing, or just grab a coffee and treat Mom to a new book or two.

7. Volunteer together.

Spend the day sharing your blessings with others. Prepare a meal at a local soup kitchen or volunteer together at a local pet shelter. It will feel great helping others while celebrating the blessings you already have.

How do you celebrate Mother’s Day?

With all the media attention, Mother’s Day can be another event that shopping malls and restaurants are looking for. Last year, I came visited my mom a day after the actual holiday. We baked and cooked lunch together. Mother’s Day is about spending bonding time with mom any day of the year. 🙂

These are all wonderful ideas. My son took me for tea & brunch at Lady Mendl’s in NYC back in 2012, and I will never forget that day. If you are ever in NYC you should check it out. I wrote a review on my blog under travel and tourism. My mom has since passed, but we would always visit and make her day special.

Mother’s Day is normally just another day in my home but if it wasn’t. I’d like a nice breakfast and then have everyone leave so I can enjoy me.

We normally grill out for dinner (it’ll be me, my husband and son, my mom, my grandma and my aunt.) It’s so much cheaper to eat in than for our group to go out!

I’m totally up for visiting a local park. There are so many beautiful parks around here and it would be nice to go out and enjoy the day together.

These are great ideas! Mother’s Day looks a little different this year for me, as my mom and dad are literally getting into a moving truck on Mother’s Day morning to move 9 hours away from me LOL

Thanks so much for the Fantastic Review on 7 Budget Friendly Ways to Enjoy Mother’s Day! Your 7 different ideas are really quite nice! However, I know my family all too well and with the financial strain at this point in time, I know that we will not be doing anything on Mother’s Day! The kids and Hubby may make breakfast, that’s if I’m lucky! Thanks so much for sharing your fantastic review and your personal and professional information on 7 Budget Friendly Ways to Enjoy Mother’s Day with all of us! I honestly do appreciate all the wonderful ideas! Thanks so much! Michele 🙂

You’ve given me food for thought. I know my mom used to love to read, I’m not sure if she still does (she lives out of state) but I’m guessing, probably. I haven’t gotten her a book in a very long time!

“Take her for tea.” Yes, I have done this in the past and it is so nice to sit, chat, enjoy tea and a few sweet things to eat.
