With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, here are some low-cost and no-cost gift ideas to sweep your sweetheart off his/her feet:
A Love Letter
Nothing says “I love you” like a handwritten love letter. Tell him/her how much you love them. Remind them of a favorite trip, romantic moment or hilarious event in your history as a couple. If letter writing isn’t your thing, try writing a surprise “I love you” on the bathroom mirror or place a quick little love note in his/her purse (wallet) or coat pocket.
Personalized CD
Modern technology has made the art of getting music so easy these days. Burn 5-10 of your favorite love tunes onto a CD or load them onto your beloved’s iPod. Include a little “play me” sticky note and place the CD/MP3 player next to their morning coffee. Here’s a link for free CD cover templates.
Favorite Dessert
Call “your” restaurant and ask if you can buy your loved one’s favorite dessert to go. Most restaurants will oblige. Be sure to serve it on a plate. — Styrofoam isn’t that sexy!
Photograph
If you have a little time, try scanning a handful of photos of you and your sweetheart over the years and place them into a collage frame or small photo album. Be sure to purchase the album or frame first so you’ll have a better idea of how many photos you’ll need and how to crop them.
A Night at the Movies
You can plan your own romantic night at the show in the comfort of your own home. Buy or rent one of your favorite all-time flicks, pop some popcorn and get two extra large fountain sodas from your local 7-Eleven. Be sure to pick up some Raisinets, Goobers, Milk Duds and Dots – they can all be found at Target for about $1 a box.
My husband and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but I would LOVE a love letter. Sometimes he gets me cards and will write something mushy in there, but I have never gotten an actual love letter.
We don’t celebrate VDay, either, but I like the idea of a mixed CD. Sounds like something that would be cherished for years to come.
Ohhh, picking up a slice of Amaretto Chocolate Cheesecake to go w/dinner at home is a great idea. And NO styrofoam. 😉
I like love letters, I try to write one to my husband every so often. He has one he carries with him, so sweet 🙂
you know what? these are all amazing ideas that doesn’t need to cost much! I love writing letters.. And now i also like ordering a fine dessert from his favorite restaurant. That is genius. Thank you 🙂
Such fantastic ideas! We were just talking about how much money we spent at Christmas, and that we’d rather not do anything for Valentine’s Day, but I could swing a couple of these 🙂
We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day – beyond saying “Happy Valentine’s Day” – but these gift ideas are perfect for any occasion. My husband gave me a photo collage once – it was great to see our life through his eyes.
These are great tips for celebrating Valentine’s Day on a budget, but still making it special. I think almost anyone would be happy to get a love letter!
Personally, I would love to go to the movies but we don’t have a babysitter so this year we are bringing the movies to our house! I can’t wait to see what the day has in store for me though.
A photo collage is a really great idea! I would love to get a love letter for Valentine’s day! Thanks for sharing great ideas!
These are all very nice ideas! Nice post! 🙂
Those are some great ideas! My love just told me a few minutes ago that he wanted to take me out for Valentine’s day – I’m such a romantic that I suggested we put the money in our greenhouse building fund instead. 😛
As a photographer I will go with the photograph idea. Snapfish has so many creative options.
Ok, that dessert idea would make me swoon for sure. There is a cheesecake at Olive Garden that I live for!
I love the idea of a love letter and music CD, how nice would those be to receive x
Those are cute and inexpensive ideas. This year we are not doing anything but packing for our move – maybe next year we will make up for it.
We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day either too commercial but if we did I love the photo idea.
These are such sweet gift ideas. I’m really looking forward to Valentine’s Day this year.

Letter writing seems to be a lost art these days. It would be really nice to actually receive or send an actual handwritten Valentines message!

I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day, but these are some great ideas. Definitely will be using them when my anniversary rolls around.
Very smart idea for last minute V Day shoppers! I sure some will be scrambling to buy stuff tonight.
I and my DH don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day as we have an wedding anniversary in the same month. For those who celebrate these last minute gift ideas sounds fun and very doable.
Valentine’s Day is such an overrated holiday but I really think that the crafts are fun.
I love the crafts and I love the hearts and colors, but I can’t make myself go and spend money to buy stuffed animals or flowers; I rather save it and maybe take my husband out to dinner or a movie…
These are all great Valentine’s Day gifts! I definitely love having movie nights at home. They can be very romantic! 🙂
My husband has made me several personalized cds over the course of our marriage. I always think that is a cool gift. 🙂
Great list. I went with simple chocolate for him this year, but I would LOVE a love letter.
