Grocery stores as you know are perfect for all of your food and beverage needs. But since retailers know that consumers love one stop shopping, grocery stores also offer other home, health, and beauty items to make your shopping trip a more convenient one! And while having these items offered to you makes like easier, it doesn’t make it cheaper! These items come at a cost, and should be avoided in order to keep your budget under control. Here are 5 items you should never buy at the grocery store, as the prices are often inflated and not worth it. Take a look!
While they are convenient to grab, you will not find rock bottom prices on cosmetics at your local grocery store. Instead, buy your lipstick, eye shadow, foundation, and other products at drugstores instead. They not only offer lower prices, but often offer in store coupons which can be paired with manufacturer coupons. You will also find budget brands at drugstores, which grocery stores don’t tend to carry.
If you have ever taken children grocery shopping, you know how they can be attracted to the toys available. Grocery stores often carry seasonal toys, but at an inflated price. They are typically off brand items but still as much as your name brand products. Avoid buying toys, even seasonal, from your grocery store. Instead, opt for a retail chain such as Target or Walmart where you can enjoy lower prices stacked with sales.
3. Home décor.
Does your local grocery store like to tempt you with home décor? Candles, candleholders, towels, frames, and other gift items can often be found, but not for less. Don’t be tempted by these quick gift items. Again they are typically off brand and offered at inflated prices.
Because your local grocer doesn’t order in large bulk like a local greenhouse can, prices on plants and garden greenery will always cost more. You may not get the quality either. Instead, opt to buy all garden plants, greenery, and fresh plants from a greenhouse instead. Those types of retailers may offer guarantees as well as planting advice as well.
5. Office products.
Skip the office product aisle if possible, as the selection is not the best and prices are greatly inflated. In fact many of the items offered at grocery stores can be found cheaper at dollar stores. You won’t see sale prices on these items, and the chances that they are a quality brand are rare as well.
Next time you go grocery shopping, stick to food and beverages and skip these “extras.” Sure they are easy to grab and go, but in the end they will cost you!
