Kaitlyn Collins, a former Green Bay Packer Cheerleader, felt she was being cyberbullied and fought back and received a favorable outcome. On Feb. 4, an unofficial Chicago Bears Fan page on Facebook posted a photo of Collins with these words: “Like If You Agree The Packers Have The Worst Cheerleaders In The NFL!” That was followed by a barrage of very nasty comments.
Collins was a cheerleader for the Packers back in 2009. The Packers use cheerleaders from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay and St. Norbert College and do not have professional cheerleaders like many of the other NFL teams do.
Kaitlyn and her family and friends wrote both Facebook and the owners of the Facebook page and requested that her picture be taken down. Facebook declined and replied that it did not meet their community standards for “cyberbullying.”
Collins decided to take matters in her own hands and she created a YouTube video in which she silently held up signs explaining what had happened to her and showcasing a few of the hurtful comments. She did not show some of the nastier ones but she did show a few of the supportive ones from the Chicago fans. She also asked viewers to fight cyberbullying.
The video went viral and has over 800,000 views. It also was able to accomplish what polite requests did not and the Chicago Bears Fan page took down the post last Thursday after being inundated with with hundreds of comments and complaints.
Kudos to you Kaitlyn for fighting back and following through on this. You are a beautiful young woman and you handled this situation with class and grace. Facebook and the Chicago Bears Fan page should take note.
