We’ve partnered with HomeHero to share this valuable information!
Five years ago, my parents had to make one of the most difficult decisions of their lives…to move from their home of over 50 years. They had lived in a wonderful old home built in 1912 that was four stories tall and full to the brim with wonderful memories that raising 5 children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren will bring.
My Dad was 87 and experiencing some health issues and had taken a bad fall down the basement steps. He was more than ready to move but he kept that to himself because he knew my mom was pretty adamant about wanting to stay. Unfortunately, my siblings and I all live spread out across the US and it was difficult for us to help with the day to day assistance that my parents needed and the upkeep the house needed. So after several months and quite a few very “gentle” conversations we were able to convince my parents to move into a senior apartment building in a small town about 15 miles from their home.
Life was good and they did seem to adjust to living in a one bedroom apartment fairly quickly. My Dad said it felt like home from the first night he was there. It took my mom longer to make that realization but she has since admitted that it was the best thing they ever did. However, after a few years there, my Dad’s health continued to deteriorate and we had to move him into a wonderful, modern residential care facility just a few blocks from their apartment. He is very happy there and he receives great care.
BUT…now my mom is turning 87 and facing her own health issues that come with aging. She is showing signs that she needs assistance with many of her daily needs and she is once again adamant about not moving. After doing some research into senior home care, we think that she will be fine living in her apartment that she has grown to love. We found HomeHero, one of the most-affordable ways to find quality in-home care for seniors. They are the largest and fastest-growing senior care marketplace in the country.
